*Only 41 of the 300 Flemish municipalities (13.7 percent) have more than 9 percent social rental housing, in relation to the number of households in 2008. This is shown by figures from “Wonen in Vlaanderen”, the Flemish agency that is competent for everything that has to do with living. In addition, 182,436 prospective tenants are still on the waiting list for social housing. How is our social housing market doing?*

Did anybody notice something wrong in the colored map? At first sight, it seems to show a “not so bad” situation in Flanders. It must be a “small” mistake that the green “good” areas are far more than “bad” red ones, and the vast majority seem to be “normal” white…
Pity is that all the white should be red??? Would that give a too unfavorable graphic image to the main question of the article, which maybe should be responded as “Another year, 86,3% of the municipalities in Flanders suspended in social housing”
TBH, the article seems to me very biased, remarking the doubts of the NVA housing minister about an indisputable creepy situation of social housing…
“Next year a more realistic picture of the waiting list”
“It is true that some municipalities still have to make additional efforts”
“Municipalities that have more than 15 percent of social housing will no longer receive funding to build more,”
But of course, having NVA in charge of social housing is the fox guarding the hen house..
edit: VRT has removed all the colors in the map now. No, VRT, this does not make the information more “transparent”…
