Is that a fazant? I suck at nature and don’t know what a fazant looks like but fazant sounds like a good name for this animal. It’s definitely not a chicken/turkey/fowl. Could it be a female peacock?

Over the last week I’ve encountered a lot of pheasants. Ranging from four to six in a very short time. Has hunting season begun or will it start soon?
If they get close to humans they are not wild, just released for hunting

Saw one of these standing on the side of the road along the Maalse steenweg on Wednesday. Very surprised to see a wild one there. And on the side of a very busy road no less!
