> The latest figures released by the government show 1,210 families were in hotels and B&Bs for longer than the six-week legal limit between 1 July to 30 September in 2022, up from 570 in 2021 for the same period.
Sounds like the legal limit isn’t really a limit then..
That can’t be true. I was told that all the hotels were filled with Asylum seekers in spite of homeless British people existing.
I believe the current mantra in Britain is:
“If you can’t afford children, don’t have them”
I don’t believe in this but going by who the people have voted for the last 13 years, this is the way things are here.
I wouldn’t even consider having children in this country until major change happens. Otherwise you’re just asking to be in poverty.
Wait until they take away the LCWRA element of Universal Credit from a million people.
We have a number of various laws that are being flouted, and broken. Is there any point in having them at all?
The right when asylum seekers exist:
>”Why are we taking care of these people when British people are homeless in the streets?”
The right when homeless people exist:
>”Well they can just get a job then can’t they? It’s not my problem that they’re homeless.”
I’m starting to think they just don’t want to help people less fortunate than themselves.
The legal limit might not be broken in this case. I believe they’re just using the shelter number for families in hotels and B&Bs without making the distinction if these are foreign nationals or not. Earlier last year they changed the laws regarding suitability of temporary accommodation for people who entered the country last year. – https://www.nhas.org.uk/news/article/suitability-of-homeless-accommodation-for-migrants
It’s almost like if we make it bloody difficult to build homes thus limiting it to those with deep pockets then allow them to strangle supply we end up with no homes for people……
The hidden homeless really do get shafted. They might have a roof over their heads, however it is still no way to live, especially for children. That lack of stability is going to impact their education and potentially lead to mental health issues that will take a lifetime to heal. It is incredibly damaging for the future of the UK to not help children in poverty, but it is also something the government is keen to allow to continue under their ‘leadership’.
I feel the need to comment on this having experienced a period of homelessness myself, but when I was 16 I ran away from my home, having fled from an my abusive mother. It was 2007, and I was able to move into hostel accommodation for a period where I received financial advice as well we emotional support from the hostel staff. Following that I was able to transfer to an alternative hostel accommodation operated by Impact Housing, where I would live, heal, and grow for the next two years.
Today those hostels no longer exist. Do you know what happened to them? Well, immediately after the tories got in, they slashed the funding, and it didn’t take long for the hostels to collapse. Without the funding they simply couldn’t afford to operate. I can say with absolute sincerity that having had the ability to flee from my mother and take refuge in an a safe environment where I could heal from the harm she’d inflicted on me, I would have killed myself.. Without them I would have taken my own life.
Those hostels are gone now. The buildings have been sold to private developers who’ve turned them into rental accommodation. The abused kids are still there though. They’re not going any where. If anything their numbers have increased significantly as the tories have driven this country further and further info poverty.
Stop giving council houses to immigrants/refugees then. Charity starts at home.
