  1. This does absolutely nothing to increase housing supply, decrease pressure on renters, bring down housing prices or help those that actually need the help.

It gives away potential future housing stock at extremely discounted rates for absolutely no reason other than buying votes.

  2. So essentially, a reward for doing fuck all with their lives? Why the fuck should any of us actually work?

The trick is to clearly get into a council house. Lemme just become a junkie and have four kids.

  3. Jesus fucking Christ , It’s bad enough that the government are doing fuck all about the housing crisis but actively making it worse by doing this? F

FS why would Sinn Fein do such a thing/s

  4. … why? no seriously. What possible good comes out of this. They are in stable council rented accommodation so aren’t at risk of eviction particularly if they have the funds to buy the home outright while retired.

What this does is remove council owned rental stock at a time where it is desperately needed. instead of these properties being use to house other council tenants when the current one dies, it goes to the children and fucked on the open market and sold at a profit compared to what the council were paid for it.

Council housing is needed for many but we really need to remove this mindset where you are entitled to buy a council house for cheap down the line. It’s undercutting those who pay for council housing through taxes. Council housing should be kept as such until such a time where there is surplus and then it should be sold on the open market when tennants die, not sold to those tenants at a discount before they die.
