Out of how many live births total of the same time period
That’s sounds like it’s really low. Definitely lower then I would have guessed.
Would a government/NGO grant of 5000e for any parent of a drug addicted child to get sterilised make any impact?
How many were taken off their parents at birth?
I see the “sterilise marginalised people” folk are out in force. FFS.
There should be quicker abortion services to drug addicts, also I would happily see sterilisation for repeat offenders
Since the very shtart ,
I was addicted to the craic
So should pregnant women be barred from pubs or will bar staff be liable for damage caused.??
I knew this sub was a right wing dump but to have people seriously suggesting eugenics? Wow.
This is also just a fraction of the number of babies born with foetal alcohol syndrome in this country.
I remember a local news article where a 16yo had broken into a house to rob them and assaulted an elderly man. He got a suspended sentence and I was annoyed as I scrolled down the article until the last paragraph.
The defence solicitor was quoted asking for the child to be removed from his parents home. The house was inhabited by addicts and the lad was born with foetal alcohol syndrome and had no support network around him.
I think of this story often. Every time I see uproar around sentencing, it’s seldom we hear the circumstances of people’s upbringing in articles. This chap never had a chance. He was fucked before his first breath. But when next he or anyone like him appears in trouble, this sub would fume at anything less than hard jail time as if it would reform someone who hasn’t grown up learning how to behave in society.
Given the context, I believe a lot of these people would then push for parents to be punished harder, but you go digging on many addicts pasts and you’ll find how badly prepared for society there were an so on.
We need to change our mindset and support people out of such misery, if we want things to improve. Otherwise we spend our time filled with anger and demanding harder punishments despite knowing that gives us all worse results.
We spend 400m on prisons each year. If we halved our prison population and threw 200m at support services to get offenders a basic start in life like those of us with good supports around us had, we could transform the problem in my opinion.
Anyone who has been near the Coombe and seen the amount of pregnant women outside smoking probably knows how little some people care about the child they are carrying.
Put them all in jail, dirty druggies! /s

Seriously though, what the fuck.
Seems pretty low
Well, this is the most distressing thing I’ve read all day. Fucking hell, what a start in life.
Surprised its that low. Also people saying that birth control or abortion will solve the problem are fucking clueless and have no idea how those addicted to drugs think or behave.
