I’d be more pissed off with getting 5c than nothing extra
All she got was 15k?
Seen a few of these WRC cases and the money recieved by the exploited workers is a pittance.
Not much of a deterence if these are tge penalties.
It’s no wonder why companies do things like this. For argumentative sake we will say a fair Sunday bonus would be 3 euro extra an hour. You could say the business works 20 Sundays in the year (as this is likely to coincide with harvest times) and average 10 hours a day. This would cost them 600 euro a year per employee. Instead they paid only a TENNER to each employee for their year contributions.
This saved the company 590*60 employees which amounts to €35,940 per annum.
This is just one saving. If they have employees working 60 hours a week it is clear they would need at least 90 employees to be safely within the limits. The extra 30 employs would cost them an awful lot between insurance and stuff. I won’t even attempt to estimate this.
Anyway, the final point being is they saved at least 50 grand a year for years by abusing employees and being bad employers. Their punishment was 15 grand. It’s pretty clear to me why this carry on happens.
Absolute scumbags, the headline doesn’t capture the extent of the mistreatment.
That’s all we get in our retail shop, imagine getting only 40c extra for working a Sunday, I’d rather nothing. Pure greed, and they’re spending a million or more on upgrades soon.
Edit. Just checked it’s 10c extra not 5. So generous
