Kortrijk Railway Station is one of Europe’s 7 Most Endangered Heritage Sites for 2023

  1. The building in kortrijk is ugly af (my opinion) and in very bad condition anyway. Just wreck it and build a functional station with a clean design like Bruges or Sint Niklaas.

The employees are sitting in ruins atm.

I believe the plans have already been made and the budget for them has been approved. Also: is it really a heritage site if it never got the label of…heritage?

  2. Ik snap de charme van het station…
Maar voor mij komt het gewoon als oud over en nood aan vernieuwing is welkom.

  3. Da lelijk kot? Wa ne klucht.

    >The demolition would not only mean the loss of an architectural gem and symbol of post-War World II re-development, but also the loss of a public space for the citizens of Kortrijk.

  4. Maybe worth mentioning as to why it’s important (it’s from the profile of the building when you click on it’s link in the article)

    >The Kortrijk Railway Station was rebuilt in 1951 to a new design by the architect Pierre Albert Pauwels, one of the most important figures in Belgian contemporary architecture. The rebuilding of the station followed the Expo 58 style, a “discussion” between neoclassical and contemporary elements.

    >The new building featured a bas-relief of an allegorical representation of travel and transport on its façade, which was made by the sculptor Maurits Witdouck; and an artwork depicting the river Lys and Kortrijk’s industries in the central travellers’ hall, which was made by the Bruges ceramicist Rogier Vandeweghe.

  5. Anyone who has ever visited the station of Kortrijk will get this joke. It’s an ugly-ass old dilapidated building that should be demolished.
