French and German tourists turn their back on Brexit Britain

  1. Hmm I just thought of not being allowed to use my ID card as annoying, didn’t even think about school children. How are the British finding it though, cause I assume you all need a passport to get anywhere now essentially?

  2. Who can blame them, we are now just stuck with the morons here who voted for brexshite.

One good thing i guess is we now know that 52 percent of England and Wales are just morons thick as pig shite.

  3. I wouldn’t want to visit this global embarrassment and laughing stock of a country either. And I fucking live here.

  4. Why would anyone want to come here?

We have a great market in my town each Thursday, but I think you can buy several packets of fag papers and a lighter on the continent.

  5. Try booking a hotel in London as I did last week and you can see this is bollocks.

It’s such a speculative article anyway. Based on what? There was an 80% drop in students last year. COVID hangover by any chance?

Plus where’s the data for actual visitors? It says US has bounced back, and implies that it’s increased(?). If that’s taken over the slack then who cares? A tourist is a tourist, whether they are American, Chinese or European.

Jersey might be having issues as mentioned in the article, but it’s a half-French tax haven so cry me a river.

  6. I came back to live in Britain for a couple years after wondering if Brexit was going as ok as people made out on Reddit and the news.

Couldn’t be any happier to get to go back to the EU. Britain is a dump.

  7. Damn well done brexshiteer scum , have fun in the island sized trash can the uk now is

    TaKe bAcK coNtRoL LMAOO

i actually feel bad for the younger generations – theyve essentially been fucked over by 60yo dipshits for probably literal decades

    gg britain, ggs

  8. This country has become the worst version of itself because people either “don’t care about politics” or are fed entirely by our very right wing media that has been lying for generations already. I genuinely feel ashamed of what this place has become due to ignorance, and now a whole shitload of borderline fascism from our own government and media!

  9. Germans are very much aware that Brexit was about keeping the foreigners out of old Blighty. And we simply comply with this request.

  10. My family lives in Germany, they usually come to visit 2-e times per year. Brexit definitely had an impact and I doubt they would come to visit if it wasn’t for their grandchildren.
It’s just a lot more hassle now, waiting times are longer and you get asked a lot of questions at the border.
When we travel to Germany and we use our British passports it’s the same. I have nothing to hide but being asked 20 questions about my stay just doesn’t feel very inviting.

  11. It’s bad enough having to live here let alone visit. They aren’t missing much, this country has gone to absolute shit.

  12. Is everyone on this sub just absolutely miserable? I think the UK is an amazing country to live in, and the fact that people will risk death by sailing in rubber boats across the sea just to live here shows that the UK is a *good* place to live.

Yes we have our problems, but there are far worse countries that we could have been unlucky enough to have born in.

I’m not saying people can’t complain, but some of the absolute shite I see on this subreddit is insane, I’ve genuinely seen people call the UK 3rd world, I’ve seen people say we’re living worse than people in Afghanistan haha.

  13. Whenever brexit is mentioned there is never any reasonable discourse, 90% of the time it is accompanied by polarized views that accomplish nothing but hate towards the other “side” and it’s gotten boring a long time ago. Regardless of which “side” you’re on, bickering solves nothing.

  14. >”less than half the population of France and Germany hold a valid passport.”

    That’s surprising.

UK based tourists traveling into the continent were always expected to hold a valid passport, present it upon arrival before boarding and again after disembarking ( via air travel) during EU membership.

Perhaps it’s a different affair for tourists based on the continent traveling intercontinentallly between other EU member countries without a dividing channel to serve as a consideration.

Traveling on a basic id card into other countries Vs a proper travel document such as a passport was never really an option for UK based tourists traveling to the continental Europe during EU membership. Passports were always required before boarding was permitted.

Id cards aren’t full proof means to properly screen arrivals. One of the [London bridge attackers](https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/813152/London-Bridge-terrorist-Ireland-identity-card-ISIS-Dublin-security-sources) a Moroccan national living in the Republic of Ireland bypassed standard checks by entering the UK on a southern irish ID card.

  15. I’ve stopped buying equipment from the UK because the extra red tape and import duties make it too expensive and time-consuming(1). I used to travel to London every few years for a day or a weekend, but I don’t exactly feel welcome there even if it wasn’t a hassle to get there.

Friends of mine and in the UK right now, and the main thing they noticed were the empty shelves.

So yeah, please fix your shit UK, because this isn’t working.

    (1)privately, I’m not a business

  16. I recently traveled with a group from France to the UK via Eurostar. The UK Border Force officers were insanely rude to everyone coming in, grilling everyone unnecessarily. I had told everyone how great the UK was and thank god they had a great time in London because it was really hard to get the bitter taste of that first impression to go away.

  17. Any time I see anything with Brexit in the title, it’s just another thing to make me really really appreciate our country and government. I thank them every day for not only making mine and 49% of peoples lives that much shitter, but also making my son and his future that much shitter. So, uh, yeah. Thanks.

  18. The article talks about Jersey, but Jersey isn’t a part of the UK and thus was never in the EU.

  19. Surprised by all the negativity in the comments. I’m currently two weeks into a holiday in England from Norway, first time visiting in years. I have been blown away by the kindness and hospitality of the people here. I have been in central London and the south west of England and everywhere has been packed with tourists from all over the world.

I am already planning my next trip before this one is even over. There was absolutely no hindrance with entering the country post brexit.

  20. So many people still ring up LBC and say I’m not voting for Starmer, but they won’t confirm if they’re voting for Sunak or whoever is running the Tory party.

They STILL believe in Boris, the Tories and that Brexit will show Europe what’s what and why Britain should be in charge of everything and everyone again.

  21. Don’t worry! We’ll have 100% more visitors from the TPTTPTPPTPTTPTPTTPTPOTTTT deal that we just signed!

  22. Brexit still hurts. Almost as much as it did when the vote came in.

I knew it would be a disaster but everyone called me a ‘salty loser’ and a ‘Remoaner’.

    They don’t anymore.

In another few years, not one single person will admit to voting Leave. But they chose to believe the lies and enabled the worse series of governments in this country’s history.

  23. I spoke to a “friend” the other day who said brexit was still worth it. He wouldn’t say what that worth was or might potentially be. Just that for all the shit currently travelling down the pipe and for the obvious clog that will inevitably follow. It’s still worth it.

    I couldn’t help but feel that just winning was a big part of it and also the sense of superiority he feels about being in a land that (to him) decided we are above foreigners. His vote boiled down to this;

Are you better than other people from other countries? He voted yes. So that’s it. It’s done. He’s better than other people, and he lives in a country where other like-minded people all agreed the same. “We’re better, we had a vote on it, and we won.” So that’s settled. Doesn’t matter what happens next. Good or bad, right or wrong. It’s worth it because he can walk with his head held high that he won.

Such a fuxking tool. He’s the king of a ruin, but better than a pauper in a palace.

  24. Brexit was always going to be death by a thousand cuts.

If you imagine the UK economy like a boat we had, and mostly still have, a large boat. The problem is we’ve spent decades putting various sized holes in the bottom of it. With Brexit we decided to go all out and fire the canons straight down.

The sad thing is I don’t see us stopping anytime soon. At the heart of the problem, I think, is inequality. There’s a rapidly growing divide between working people and the people controlling the country and large businesses. Worryingly I see a lot of hate for the people earning really good incomes (e.g. low six figures) but I don’t see them as the problem. The problem individuals are the one’s you never hear about and can never touch.
