Spoiler alert : the closure of the last nuclear plants in Germany will not decrease the carbon intensity of its electricity grid
If you add more renewables and updated reactors to Frances grid, it would literally be perfect, amortization, renewables increase and base load for hydrogen would create a perfect context for a huge increase in domestic industry while also being able to handle electric car infrastructure.
I really wish these maps would break up the uk into the devolved regions. Scotland produces so much renewable energy
Looking on single states while we have an european grid is a bit ridiculous.
Germany produces way more energy than needed cause we’re exporting energy to our neighbours. We would be so much cleaner if we would just needed to power ourselves.
Why is it that Germany needs to power its neighbours? Cause there nuclear power plants don’t work properly and if they’re working they depending on cool water from rivers. Rivers that dried out a couple of last year, good luck with that.
Yes that is true german electricity is carbon intense mainly due to coal if coal was switched for example completely to gas the CO2 Emissions would be halved
Would have make sense to use the remaining NPP to substitute lignite coal which is the dirtiest one, but that is another question.
But the claims from some of the cherry picking post like that NPP are subsistuted by coal is just not true
If you look at the Nuclear Exit since 2000 you see a decrease in nuclear, decrease in coal in recent times a rise and a massive increase of renewables
Not enough though to stop coal, but it is clear that Germany is reducing CO2 slowly but it decreases
While this does look grim. Please stop using electricity only. Looking at CO2 Emissions per Capita it’s about 1:2 Fr/Ge (1:2 UK/Ge).
