i almost never honk, like yes, the white suv was clearly reckless but i’m thinking he probably didnt notice the red car slowly approaching because they clearly werent paying attention, i hope they werent intentionally pulling out and potentially risking a collision. But it happened, it will happen again what is honking going to solve, so i dont honk. But its totally justified in this scenario, I agree. I should honk more.

While the SUV driver in white is in the wrong here, you OP seems to lack complete knowledge on driving backwards with a car.
Most cars that arent ancient relics have some kind of visual indicator that their backwards car gear is on so other drivers will be aware of an incoming maneuver. In this case where the red lights are on the back of SUV, there is also a yellow light turning on which you can clearly see being activated and turning off when that driver is taking its gear out when he decided to step out of the car.
Also the SUV driver wasnt lightning fast with its maneuver so you had plenty of reaction time to see whats gona happen and stop earlier.
The SUV probably has a camera that lets you see in the back but it also has fairly limited visual abilities on how much can the driver see. No matter if that driver was focusing on his camera or just by turning his head, you were on his blind spot so it was practically very hard for him to make anything out. Hence why he started driving backwards slowly.
He is still in the wrong but from his POV, there wasnt much he could do but you on the other hand should have seen this coming just by having overall experience in driving with cars. This applies to the driving aspect, not the SUV driver stepping outside.
As a driver with almost 30 years on the record I would let the backing guy to finish his maneuvre. Why? Because most likely he cannot see me but I can see him and I understand what he’s doing. Going backwards is one of the most dangerous maneuvres and I would let him finish that by also securing his back from some others that may be behind me.
It’s another thing to get out of the car and go to yell at someone who honked while they had the formal right.
Traffic is a constant social agreement between everyone to get around with smallest friction while still staying within the boundaries of the law.
Some fuckwad backed into my car this one time, slowly, while i was parked in a spot. I saw them coming slowly, i kept honking to notify them, but they must’ve been deaf. Of course when they couldnt back up any further, because, you, know, my car was in they way, i got out to check the damage. Thankfully plastic is elastic enough and the speed was low, so there was no damage. They also got out, three huge bald men from an old mercedes. Guys were like 2x2m big. Told them to fuck off from my car and that i wont call the police since there was no damage and i was in a hurry. But man, they trying to intimidate me like that, bunch of cunts.
