24,000 Workers Go On General Strike in Norway

  1. This strike will affect a lot of tourists. Not only does it seem likely that there will be a beer shortage, but passenger ferries have reduced departure frequencies all over the country.

  2. > The Norwegian union LO (Landsorganisasjonen i Norge) has begun one of the biggest general strikes in modern history, and have pulled 24,000 workers on general strike on the morning of April 17, 2013.

The article wrongly dates the strike as happening in 2013 then goes on to make wild assumptions regarding consequences.

    > it seems likely that Norway will get a beer and soft drink shortage

    > Expect many ferries to have severely reduced departure intervals, and some to even be completely closed until the strike is over.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen inaccurate and blown out of proportion information coming from thenorwayguide.com.

A more objective article can be found [here](https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/norway-private-sector-workers-go-strike-2023-04-16/).

  3. To give a bit more context.
This strike is unusual. Never have a mid-term negotiation between LO (representing employees) and NHO (representing employers) which only involves salery end in a strike before. But it’s a result of high rise of inflation.

So to those who may wonder how long it will last? We don’t know. And will it affect the whole nation? Yes.

  4. Going by how respectful and eager to learn you are, there is nothing to worry about. You will love it here no doubt! I wish you guys the most pleasant of trips.

  5. If LO’s demands are met, we will have unstoppable inflation and skyrocketing interest rates. The government has to step in and stop this but this government is too busy looking for ways to repel non EU people to do the right thing. The only correct way to help the workers is through policies that will raise the abysmal value of the krone.

  6. Don’t blame them. My cost of living has risen substantially higher than consumer index based middling salary increase I have received.
