I made some for my mates when I was an exchange student in Canberra. It was a bitch and a half to find proper rye meal for the dough. Finally found some in the health food section, cost a fortune 😀
Very nice! I often prepare them, very good when fresh out of oven. And the next day as breakfast.
Traditionally we mix butter and hard boiled eggs with a fork. Put on top, very good. Or if you want less fat, just a dash of butter and sliced hard boiled eggs.
My Chinese girlfriend also loves them. As well as lihapiirakka. And all kinds of rye bread. Worth checking out. Also, rye bread can be really healthy, holds hunger away for longer and has the good fibers to help your stomach.
Who was the model?
Great with caviar on top!
pro tip, put the dough trough a pasta machine
Haha! Nice to see people from other countries enjoy our culture! If you ever visit Finland again I definitely recommend going to a cafe and getting a cinnamon bun (Finnish coffee is also great)
Looks good! Eggbutter ratio seems a bit off though. Needs more eggs.
Nami, looks great, for the „perfect“ shape I can recommend flatten out the entire dough and use a 10cm bowl to make the pieces.
After that still flatten them in one direction and voila.
In 2018, I stayed at a hotel caddy-corner to the casino in Helsinki, and that hotel had a breakfast buffet you wouldn’t believe. This was on the buffet, and I enjoyed them immensely! In my next life, I want to come back as a Finn.
Lookin like som proper Karjalanpiirakka right there! Enjoy!
I can see that you’re already making your own, so it’s clear the point of no return is far behind you. Once you’re hooked like that, there’s no turning back.
“Rypytys” is a skill of which og Karelian mommas are proud. Practice makes perfect 🙂
You need to work on the rims a bit but fortunately they do not affect the taste 🙂
Looks great! I have to grab some tomorrow for breakfast 🤤
