Overcrowding fears prompt HSE to urge public to consider alternatives to emergency department

  1. Ongoing issues with gettin a GP or if ya have one getting a fuckin appointment is forcing people to go to A and E. In theory you could go to one of the out of hours doc services Kdoc etc, but theyll just send ya to fuckin A an E 9 times out of 10.

  2. Need more GPs. I’m also a little surprised that more people aren’t aware of urgentcare/minor injury clinics.

  3. They just removed the cost for an overnight hospital stay. Is there any suggestion that that is making people more likely to just rock up at a hospital instead of waiting for a GP appointment and paying for it handsomely?

I mean the lack of joined up thinking with all the policies that have been announced around health (like extending GP visit cards without increasing the amount of GP’s) in recent years is staggering

  4. Won’t solve it, but it’ll help- get rid of free access to A&E for medical card holders. The system is being abused by a significant number.

Also, if it’s out of hours, contact midoc or whatever your equivalent is first. Unless you know work some certainty that its an emergency medical situation.

  5. I called my GP to make an appointment, when I called I was 8th in the call waiting and after 25 mins I got through to a receptionist who told me it’d be at least a week before I could see my GP (unless it was an emergency) so I thanked her and hung up. On the bright side I saved myself €60 👍

  6. Just die at home instead, cause you won’t be seen by a GP till Thursday next week and if you want to see a specialist then it will be 3-5 years.

Cash payments or good enough insurance and you can skip the que.

  7. My wife had to wait 2 days to get two tiny pieces of glass out of her hand. Something that GPs would have done in 5 minutes in the past. She didn’t want to go to A & E but what alternative did she have?

  8. We are like two steps from Aromatherapy being the recommended option.
Well that is one way to solve overcrowding I guess.
