Hi everyone, I just wanted to remind you that you can register to vote for the municipal elections until tomorrow. Check out [icanvote.lu](https://jepeuxvoter.lu/en/) to see how you can register and to get more information about the elections (in 🇫🇷🇬🇧🇩🇪🇵🇹 and 🇱🇺)

A few things you might want to know:

* Voter eligibility got expanded: foreigners can vote as soon as they move in Luxembourg
* the only requirement is, that you weren’t stripped of your right to vote in Luxembourg or in your home country (except if you lost it *because* you moved)
* The elections are about the municipal council, which has a lot of impact on your day to day life (like where housing will be build, when streets are resurfaced, what public services get more/less funding, etc…)
* depending on the size of your municipality, you’ll have have the option to vote for parties (“Proporzgemengen”). Keep in mind, that the goals of the local parties may differ from the national (sometimes a lot). You’ll still be able to pick individual candidates and even mix candidates from different parties (“Panachéieren”). These individual votes set the order by which the candidates get appointed to the council. However you can’t vote both for a party and for individuals (party vote = vote for everyone on the list).
* in smaller municipalities, you can only vote for individuals, but if you like one of them a lot, you can give them up to two of your votes each.
* the lists of candidates should be on your municipality’s website

And a last thing to know: of you register to vote, you don’t only get the right to vote in local and european elections, you get the *duty* to do so. Failing to vote can get you a fine, but they’re rarely enforced. Voting by mail is super easy though and can be asked for on [myguichet.lu](https://www.services-publics.lu/fpgun-iep/jsp/activate_service_with_parameters?serviceType=ME_DEM_VOTE_CORRESP_ELECT_COMMU%20), so you can always do that.

  1. Also don’t forget to hit that dang send button! I filled the form out weeks ago, went back to myguichet yesterday for something else.. and found that I had failed to hit ‘send’ for what must have been the 10th time in submitting a simple form. Just in time!

  2. I may be mistaken, but this registration doesn’t give the right to vote in European elections when the person voting has no European citizenship, right?
