On this day 175 years ago Transylvanian Romanians gathered in Blaj to demand their right from the Habsburg authorities and protest against the Hungarian revolutionaries’ plan of making Transylvania a part of Hungary

  1. The infighting between romanians and hungarians in 1848 was extremly harmful to both. The habsburgs could have been fought much more effectively if both sides fought together. Nicolae Balcescu (one of the main leaders in the 1848 Wallachian revolution) actually supported a danubian confederation that would include both Romanians and Hungarians. Kossuth also supported something simmilar but didnt agree with Balcescu’s draft because it wasnt pro Hungariane enough for him. Building bridges like this instead of falling into just petty nationalism would have benefited both sides

  2. It wasn’t the Hungarian revolutionist who planned to “make” Transylvania a part of Hungary. It has already been part of it for nearly an entire millenia.

  3. Look at them Romanians trying to justify their imperialistic conquest, the Russians having fun in Ukraine have better excuses than you guys.
