That’s awful, didn’t they recently announce a reunion type thing?
Shared a cigar with him and Bradley when they were touring as S Club 3. Legend.
This is awful. Poor man.
No cause of death yet so can only speculate, but this guy has had it rough.
Manager (Simon Fuller) stole 95% of the band’s earnings and Paul ended up on the dole. He was contractually forced into a relationship with his band mate Hannah for PR spin news for 6 years. Sold his Brit award on eBay to make a bit of cash as he declared bankruptcy.
And he had a permanent back injury during work on the rocky horror picture show. And years later it was revealed he quit S Club 7 during the height of their fame (which ultimately broke all their contracts and ended the band) to become a tarot card reader. Apparently he was charging £40 for psychic readings over the phone. Safe to say, he made some pretty unique choices in his life.
He never married and never had children sadly despite saying he wanted both kids and marriage on Loose Women and going on dating shows trying to find someone (and subsequently crying on camera when he was rejected by his date on First Dates Hotels).
I mean, that’s a wild ride. May he rest easy.
I was one of those 90s kids that denied ever being a fan of S Club, but knew their songs slapped. Even saw him as S Club 3 on a short lived nostalgia reviving tour. Again, was secretly excited for their resurgence.
Sad for him and sorry for S Club.
That’s really sad news.
This sent a chill down my spine.
RIP Paul
This guy was one of the poster children about the warnings of that cheesy pop groups and how they were treated. I was hoping the recent comeback was a chance for him to get back on track. Quite a sad story:(
Awful news.
Just before S Club 7 were supposed to go on tour too. I know he had no money and had to sell his Brit Award many years ago because of how bad things had got. He never had another job and could not even get hired for pizza delivery. I don’t doubt he battled depression over how his life turned out after leaving music.
S Club 7 will always have a place in heart. They were my favourite pop group from that era and their songs were (and still are) my jam for discos. Bring It All Back never fails to cheer me up, even after all these years. Cheesy pop it might be but they were a formative band for me, so this one hits close to home.
Literally watched the episode of First Dates Hotel with him in like two weeks ago. I couldn’t believe it when he said he was in S Club 7. They were massive when I was a kid.
RIP.
I met him in a pub in Stokey once through a mutual friend and spent the evening drinking with him and doing a pub quiz. Have to say he came across as a nice, uncomplicated guy, really friendly and down to earth. He knew you knew where he was from, but never mentioned it or tried to leverage it.
Really sad to hear this. It’s fair to say that the celebrity machine chewed him up and spat him out at a young age. Everyone in that group was fucked over in one way or another. Look to the people who exploited those kids for profit.
Poor Paul. His decline over the years was sad to watch. I loved S Club 7 growing up and were my first ever concert. May he find peace
Regardless of who he was/wasnt/used to be,
It’s a sad state of affairs to pass away so young, and even worse if he’s took his own life.
Blokes need to open up and talk, talk to anybody.
Sad news. Manufactured pop bands were all the rage in the 90s and we all went along with the hype. The bands really do get used by management and tossed to the side when they have milked them for what there worth
46 is way too young to die
May he rest easy and peacefully
He was a massive crush of mine in that sorta 1999-2001 era lol. I loved S Club 7 as a child. It’s horrible to hear of anyone who wasn’t a bad person dying, but this one’s just really sad to me.
I remember when he sold his Brit award and it just felt cruel for it to be a topic on Loose Women etc at the time.
I’m going to point out, that when S Club 7 announced they were reforming or however you want to say it, the top comment on the post (or one of on casualUK) was a comment about how fat he got.
Doubt that helps a man who’s gone through a rough life.
I have many fond memory’s of dancing like a fool to s-club in tables in a bar and falling off onto my face.
Also lots of clowning to sclub at cheese nights in the 90’s.
He’s the same age as me.. fuck.
Ain’t nothing like an sclub party. Whoop whoop.
Was he forced into the Hannah relationship? Seemed they did have something.

We need some consistency between the media promoting the be kind message and then being absolutely careless bullys or at least providing a platform to be awful.
Cue now a big #BeKind reaction from the same media last week berating him for aging badly and his odd life choices.
Even with genuinely bad eggs in politics we need to tone down the level of abuse they get systemically from the media and their opposers, just the other day Labour tweeted essentially calling the PM a Peadophile.
We’ve got to be better than this.
That’s tragic. Especially given how much his life had been screwed by his old producer taking the band’s earnings.
When I was 19, I was in a musical with Paul. He was 14 and we talked about his wish to be a band and make his profession music. I had the chance too but in a different musical genre/field and turned away for a more mundane life though it didn’t turn out ordinary by most people’s standards. He and I stayed in touch on and off and I knew of his demons but hoped he’d come good. Sadly not and I’ll continue to wonder if my advice to “follow your heart and go for it” was right for you Baby John. Rest in peace my friend.

Everyone here should read [Reach for the Stars: 1996–2006: Fame, Fallout and Pop’s Final Party](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reach-Stars-1996-2006-Fallout-Final/dp/1788707249) and [Exit Stage Left: The curious afterlife of pop stars](https://amzn.eu/d/9Rulh6R) if you want to know what happened to Paul, S Club 7 and the 90s boy and girl groups…
VERY Eye-opening…
My inner 10-year-old is stricken. My outer 30-something is so sad how things turned out. We really are in the wrong timeline.
