Channel crossings: Smugglers are using ‘death trap’ boats, agency says

  1. I’m not surprised, it reminds me of what the smugglers in the Mediterranean are doing.

The smugglers make sure a boat can make it into international waters and no further, to stop the migrants from turning back. They then rely on rescue services to pick the migrants up and finish their journey for them.

It seems like these French smugglers might be doing the same; building shoddy boats that can only make it to the British side of the channel, then using rescue services to complete the final leg of the journey.

  2. You’d have thought the Conservatives, being the Party of the Free Market and Enterprise would be congratulating the smugglers for their business-chops, setting up to privatise a service such as the Asylum Process in lieu of the government actually doing something about it all!

  3. What I don’t understand is why the immigrants are buying boats from people smugglers. Why not just club together and buy their own?
