Hey,

My laptop (a Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th gen) unfortunately got some lemon juice inside while being carried in my backpack. It was on standby at the time, and I found it off after the incident. The charge LED still works, but I can’t power it anymore.

I already bring it to a nice repair shop in Ixelles where they thoroughly cleaned the motherboard, but unfortunately this is not sufficient. I therefore think some components were damaged (probably due to a short circuit during the incident). Unfortunately this shop is not able to diagnose/repair at the component level, so they suggest replacing the whole motherboard.

Do you know anyone who could do such repairs (microsoldering, …)? The problem/laptop is quite similar to [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDBKz30uvhs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDBKz30uvhs), but I am not sure if there are still people doing those king of fixes in Belgium, or if it is only considered worthy in countries with a lower cost of living. I can see the laptop would still be worth of 700eur on sites such as backmarket, so I don’t mind paying to get it repared rather than just put it to the trash.

Thanks!

  1. Nope. First, you’d have to spend time diagnosing the failure, figure out which components to order, and the solder them, which may be impossible depending on how it is soldered. I hsve a masters degree in electronics and i can tell you that this type of fixing is usually not done anymore for consumer level electronics because the cost is going to be bad.

This is likely going to be a very expensive thing to do. More expensive than replacing the motherboard.

  2. In Brussels there’s a microsoldering repair shop in Gallerie Ravenstein in the city centre.
