Well there goes any argument that a united Ireland is unaffordable.
That’s about €3200 per person. Sweet. Presumably we’ll get it as a lump sum?
Should be noted that this figure assumes no changes in the budget later this year.
Now let’s watch as they fuck it all into the wind and don’t do anything good with it.
Yet they’ll raise income tax undoubtedly.
I’ll vote for the party that spends every last cent of it on capital projects.
I’m sick of paying Swedish tax rates and getting Albanian infrastructure.
Just in time for FG/FF before the next election. The budget this year will be interesting. It makes me optimistic, but at the same time I’ll believe it when I see it with this current government. As someone not aligned to any political party, its their chance to spend properly and get me on their side before next election. Let’s just hope they don’t mess it up.
That is enough for 64,000 homes @ 250k each. Someone should place an Order with Acme Houses to make sure they are delivered on time.
We’re going to have the most expensive children’s hospital ever.
Jesus, that is incredible.
More money to spend in things that don’t benefit anybody here
Knock knock, RTE here looking for your spare schillings. Any help guv?
People go on about housing and that is a big one but we should two areas.
– Navy
– third level education
For the navy we will soon have interconnectors and pretty major transatlantic cables. The Russians have cut some cables or sabotaged others. At the minimum we should be able to police our waters which we are barely able to.
Third level funding is in dire straits. A nation of our level of supposed wealth and development should be targeting third level education equivalent to Switzerland.
We should try to target high competencies in Data science, wind power, everything IT and pharma.
Basically play to our strengths. The only way we can keep the current levels of economic growth is by investing in education. The tax flows from the big corporations shouldn’t be relied on because someday the situation could change and things can change pretty quickly. We should be like Switzerland we have a high level of top class universities.
We should build a water rafting facility with it
Ah sure the boys will be guaranteed a raise so
Half of that should be affordable housing, the other half should be invested in our future for when we don’t have it so cushy with the multinationals
And they say the metro is too expensive 🙄
Someone post this in /r/europe and watch them rage.
Why in the actual is this NOT SPENT ON THINGS WE NEED!?!?!
16.2billion and we still cant get a cup of tea on the Galway to Dublin train.
It could solve almost all housing problems. Spend every single penny
I would like 656 white water rafting facilities, please.
Reduce the top rate of tax and USC.
Just about pays for the childrens hospital overruns.
How is it possible we all are able to spend money we don’t have and then there exists a thing where there’s too much money to spend😅
TAX CUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listening to Pascal Donohue on matt Cooper there and he basically said they’re gonna hoard the money in case of a financial crisis in a few years time. So they’re basically gonna do fuck all with it.
This surplus gets bigger every time I hear about it.
It should be spent on an infrastructure project that could be used by all.
We don’t have enough Statues,l would love to see big Statues,l mean massive Louis XIV sized Statues of great heroes of lreland like Patrick Sarsfield, James II,Theobald Wolftone and the Great Hugh Dubh O’Neill all over Dublin. Twenty or thirty foot high statues in Italian Marble would be beautiful and lift so many spirits. It would provide a lot of employment too. A large statue in every Town of more than 10,000 inhabitants all over lreland would be so nice. We are in danger of forgetting our history, one thing lreland needs is Statues, lots of them.
so why the fuck are they talking about raising individual tax rates? seems like they should be lowered or we should see something for the fucks high rates we currently pay
Can I have my tax back then ? I could really do with you know food….
Please don’t have it out to people. Use it on capital expenditure.
Build as much as possible for as long as the money is coming in.
Government: we don’t have enough money!
Also government: *proceeds to make huge profit*
Pearse Doherty absolutely licking his chops , we’ll reduce the pension age to 62 just to piss off the french, Mary Lou can give everyone a free holiday home, give Putin €1 billion for United Ireland propaganda . . . Just let him at it
We could extend the Spire by 400km and so astronauts could slide down it like firemen.
I understand all the reasons we can’t just pump it into the economy, but none of those reasons rule out spending it on a few big infrastructure projects.
It’s probably the only way we could actually use it without banjaxing our economy.
Norway stuck all of their “complicated income” money into a single walled off fund that they use for pensions and stuff, we could do the same. Stick it all in a single infrastructure fund.
Navan railway 1 billion
Athenry to Clare Morris railway 1 billion
2 more children’s hospitals equivalent 4-5 billion
Cork luas 1.5 billion
Housing 2 billion
Defense spending and fighters 2 billion
Health investments 2 billion
Debt servicing rest
Choc ices all round!
Sovereign Wealth Fund actively managed.
Restoration of the Defence Forces so that we can exploit huge technological developments to deliver a credible neutrality or significant contribution to an EU defensive alliance at a lesser cost than ever possible.
