How can this be avoided? It makes me think that someone caught in a “hit and run” should be strongly punished and his driving license removed.
So the driver stopped, saw one of the cyclists was badly injured and drove off like a coward. These kinds of assholes need be taken off the road permanently.
I think VRT should stop using cycling “tourists” in headlines.
A lot of people associates this group with road users not respecting the road laws. Its up to the police report if their tourist behaviour has anything to do with the accident.
Tolerance for these sorts of crimes should be 0. Not being able to correctly control your heavy metal box and then not taking responsibility when you hit someone is just terrible behaviour. I hope that the driver gets his license removed. Worst thing is that in other social circles the blame might be shifted to the cyclists….
I have so many questions about what the situation was. This article doesn’t really tell us anything. (Lower your pitchforks, I’m not looking to blame the cyclists. I ride my bicycle to work myself)
Is the punishment still less for driving away then driving drunk/no licence?
Driver must really not care for cyclists, damn.
I got hit coupled weeks ago by a car, injured on the hand. Driver refused to fill in any paperwork. So i went to the cops. I had her licence plate. Not the smartest moves.
To the cyclists, carry a aanrijdingsformulier if you got a work backpack. Good for insurance and what not. Most cyclists are fully covered for body dmg.
Points based driver’s licences like they have in France might not be so bad after all (just don’t be as harsh on minor speeding infractions)
