There is absolutely no legal framework for a Malta based company to offer gambling services in Africa. Malta is harboring illegal activities. No surprises there.

  1. Isn’t this like blaming liquor producing countries for alcoholism though? Or cigarette producing countries for lung cancer?

African countries are perfectly capable of outlawing or regulating gambling if they choose to do so.

  2. I don’t see why Malta is at fault per se. Everyone is a target and it is up to each country to regulate its people. In the past Maltese nationals were not allowed to enter the local Casino. Things change and people and their governments need to change too.

  3. “Charities speaking with The Shift say African youths are being mercilessly targeted and groomed by Maltese gaming companies through advertising, infiltration into schools and charities and even through the donations of computers that can be used to feed the vice..”

I mean, this is a bit of a stretch. Donating computers is suddenly an act of evil? It’s not like anyone is holding a gun to anyone’s head and forcing them to gamble. The European or Chinese markets are probably much more lucrative targets – I would hazard a guess that a single European gambler is worth 100x African ones taking typical wages into account..

Interesting premise but it needs more fact and less sensationalism.
