  1. Someone below suggested that this was some sort of indictment on the Irish justice system, but rather it’s the opposite.

If even someone we all know is up to his neck in criminality can nontheless be found not guilty on a specific criminal charge, that’s a good thing in terms of how our justice system works. Particularly in the context of a Special Criminal Court whose existence has been criticised by (amongst others) Amnesty and United Nations Commission on Human Rights.

Now it might be an indictment of the decision to attempt to prosecute him on these charges in the first place, but that’s a different matter.

  2. The aul monks bank balance must be running low if he has to fork out for a local crackhead to keep the media away😅 on a side note hes pulling off the brendan gleeson look from braveheart pretty well too

  3. How the fcuk did this ever make it to trial, remember the DDP decided there was a case against him before Dowdall agreed to testify against him

  4. We all know the Hutches were involved but it was total absurdity to try him for murder as the triggerman based on no more than the evidence of a clearly State-bribed witness. It’s the right result in terms of the rule of law. I don’t feel like this is justice averted, honestly. It’s a justice system actually functioning correctly.

Whoever in the DPP decided to file these charges deserves to be fired for the amount of money they’ve cost the State alone. It felt like a mickey mouse version of DAs in America trying to make their name on trumped up charges in a high profile case.
