It says right there “claimants lower their wage demands and get into work when recognising they will no longer get benefits.”
That’s all the tories give a shit about.
And it’s backed by their ideology because “ministers claim sanctions act as a deterrence to claim benefits”
Which is backwards because this is what you pay tax for. A safety net for when you fall on hard times, you’re not meant to be deterred from it. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Just think how many more people were affected by those sanctions in the time it took for the report to come out too. The whole system is designed to punish people for not being in work, not to actually help them. The Tories are correct to say they want people off benefits but forget to mention that they do not care if people get back into work in the same breath. Simply not accessing benefits you are entitled to out of fear is good enough for them.
> Benefit sanctions slow down claimants’ progress into work and are likely to force them into taking lower-paying jobs that leave them hundreds of pounds a year worse off, according to an internal report that the government tried to suppress.
Fucking heartless monsters.
As quoted by the guardian:
‘its release was blocked by the then work and pensions secretary, Thérèse Coffey, on the grounds it was “not in the public interest”.’

So it works, for the tories anyway.
