  1. It looks like OP posted an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of [concerns over privacy and the Open Web](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmputatorBot/comments/ehrq3z/why_did_i_build_amputatorbot).

  2. I can see a US intervention in Cuba soon. The governor of Florida has hinted at it and he has wide support among the Cuban American population, same with Trump. They both called out Biden over inaction over the recent protests in Cuba in which the cuban regime shut down internet so people could not post about the protest.

The senate has passed a bill to setup satellite internet over Cuba so that may help, but I can see a quick intervention happening eventually.

  3. >Notably, people escape Cuba mainly because of the depressing economy and political repression that forces people to leave the nation.

Notably, people escape Italy/ Greece mainly because of the depressing economy.

  4. But people on the Internet told me that Cuba is a socialist paradise and every bad thing is actually capitalist propaganda./s

  5. I mean, doesn’t that nullify the argument that people come to Europe because “it’s the closest most accessible safe territory” ? People come to Europe because doors are open and social policies are generous and that’s it.

  6. Cubans have an actual, demonstrable case for refugee status under American law. These are the people we *ought* to be admitting.

The only conclusion I have arrived at that makes any sense for Biden’s refusal to do so, is also the most cynical one: Cuban ex-pats are (as a group) *very* conservative — even by US standards: they are very politically astute, engaged, they wield a lot of political power in a unified bloc…and they’re a lock for GOP candidates in one of the nation’s most crucial swing states.

  7. Yo man, if we absolutely have to take in refugees here in Europe, can’t we take in some Cuban refugees. I would love to have some great Cuban food in my neighborhood. We have enough kebab shops. No offense.

  8. Great!!! I think nationalities from communist and post communist states tend to fit in better with Western European cultures anyways. A lot less tension and having to accommodate.
