  1. The DPP and the Gardaí rightly fucked this one. The court accepted they organised it BUT that’s not what he was charged with

  2. I am fucking shocked that a SCC case on Hutch of all people ended up without a conviction. Usually when something goes to the SCC it’s curtains

  3. Not surprised. Dowdall seems like an utter thick. Evidence was flimsy at best. The man is scum but can’t prosecute someone for being a cunt of a human sadly

  4. I said earlier that I felt the evidence didn’t stack up to get the murder conviction. What next?

  5. The prosecution completely ballsed this one up.

He was only charged with being the actual shooter, not with arranging it or whatever.

  6. Remember when Dowdell was so reliable he would bring down SF?

We are a nation of bluffers, plain and simple. Heads need to roll

  7. I was *assured* that the SCC existed solely as an extra-legal rubberstamp for the evil machinations of the Government.

I am outraged that they failed to impose their illegitimate tyranny over this man.

  8. How / Why the prosecution built their case on him being the shooter – Hutch, a man aged 53 – when we all saw the photo’s of the shooters dressed in squad gear….. is beyond me.

  9. I wonder what the Spanish make of this. Especially if he heads back there immediately. Be interested to see if they report on it

  10. Humiliating for the state to lose a case even in its own kangaroo court.

Everyone knew that guilt hadn’t been proven. I’d just assumed he’d get off on appeal, not at this point in the process. I guess some things are just too farcical even for the Special Criminal Court

  11. Why in gods name did the prosecution put him forward just for murder and not the litany of other things they definitely had him on?

  12. He had a pull a taxi on the side of the road. That’s a bit mad. Say the taxi man is sweating buckets on the way to the airport.

  13. I’m 100% being really thick here… But how in the name of Jesus Christ does a man who is a known criminal, and everyone knew from day one was responsible for the shooting, get found to be not guilty?

  14. I hope the mess the guards made of this case is not driven by them not going in another direction because it implicates some of them in something.

  15. all the people who thought Dowdall was reliable character for shaming SF, or for getting a conviction here, look pretty foolish right now.

  16. I think most of us probably believe he is guilty of Byrne’s murder but on the evidence presented in this case, there was only ever going to be one outcome which was him being found not guilty.

Dowdall is the real winner here, he’s just received entry into the witness protection programme and his own murder trial being dropped in return for dodgy testimony that didn’t even lead to a conviction. Serious questions need asking of whom ever decided to base this entire case around him.

In a way, it’s good that it was the SCC where he was found not guilty as if it was in a regular court, conspiracies would be rife about tampering with the jury. Atleast now nobody can argue with the decision and it shows that the SCC is not always a slam dunk and retains an important role in bringing high profile criminals to justice.

Lastly, one can only hope the Kinahan’s are the next to face the rigours of the law in the same way Hutch has.

  17. This case was only ever about making the shinners look bad. Everyone trying to link them to organised crime. Varadkar even used this case to score points in the house

  18. No surprise there. He’s too wiley to allow himself to be put in that position.

It does show the caliber of people the Shinners take in to their ranks, though.

  19. Gerry Hutch is gonna spend the rest of his life trying to find ‘the real killer’ like OJ, I suggest he starts by looking at the other members of Talking Heads.

  20. Delighted it shows the incompetence of the Gardai & the DPP i believed they were pushed by the Justice minister for a conviction plus the state witness is a former Shinner which also Rubber stamped the DPP’s decision ,Egg on their faces

  21. I was on a jury that hutches barrister defended a guy up for murder. He pleaded guilty for man slaughter. He basically embarrassed the Garda who built their case around the testimony of an alcoholic. He made the Garda and the Defence barrister look like amateurs.

  22. And the regular Shinner accounts celebrate, all the whole still insisting neither them nor their party has any connections with the people involved
