On this day 56 years ago the 7 year long Greek military junta started. On the morning of April 21st 1967 Tanks surround the Greek parliament and every leading politician is arrested, the people behind this coup are Georgios Papadopoulos, Stylianos Pattakos and Nikolaos Makarezos

Ah yes, those guys who raided a university with a tank, killed unarmed students and arrested/beat others. And all that while the population was starving to death. They also arrested my grandpa’s brother when he was a uni student and extradited him to Germany because he was found writing a “leftist” message (bread, education, freedom) with a can of paint on a wall.
Thankfully the junta fell and he managed to live happily in Germany until his final days.
