Local groups denied access to reasons for refusal of English river bathing areas

  1. Just swim in the rivers you want to. It’s what I do. I don’t look to see if it’s labelled “bathing river” or not, why do you need a sign to tell you?

  2. The reasons for refusal of English river bathing areas are on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”

  3. It seems twas ancient times since last we could swim in what are now… ..”England’s green and mostly very unpleasant rivers”

  4. I paddleboarded up my local river last May. I fell in just once and had an ear infection for the next 3 months. Quite depressing how bad it is.

  5. It’s a disgrace. The government is there to improve the quality of life for people. Denying organisations the right to clean up rivers so they can be used for wild swimming is just putting the water companies interests (interest in dumping shit into rivers) over those of the people paying the bills.

  6. It’s disgusting that the government is denying local groups access to information about river bathing areas. These communities deserve to know why their requests have been denied and what they can do to ensure that their voices are heard. It’s time for the government to start listening to the people.

  7. Even when I was a kid in a nice clean village stepping into the shallow stream that went through the town seemed fine, but there were glass shards from people throwing bottles/pints in and local businesses used rat poison which sometimes caused rats to die in the stream, rotting and releasing liquid down it.. so gross and unhygienic.
