  1. I remember doing this when i was a kid they still do it? 😅
I don’t remember exactly what it was for i know it looks creepy but it ain’t something bad

  2. This is Mrs. Sarakosti or Kyra Sarakosti.

She is pictured as a woman with, seven legs, praying, and no mouth because she is fasting throughout this period (40 days).

Every Saturday, starting with the one after Clean Monday, “Mrs. Sarakosti” loses a leg.

Basically, this creation plays the role of a calendar with each leg representing one week.

  3. This is lady Saracoste each leach leg represents 1 week of Saracoste a period of fastening and prayer for Orthodox as a means of Paschal preparation.

  4. u/amarao_san thanks a lot for this post – it’s exactly the type of information in the quadrant of “I don’t know that I don’t know”, I’m in this thread for ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

  5. That is ” η κύρια σαρακοστή” basically a Greek fairy tale of a woman with no nose and no mouth so she can’t eat or smell meat and other “μη νηστίσιμα” foods (at least that’s what I remember)

  6. As others said, Sarakosti is the period of lent from Green Monday to Easter. In Cyprus we say on Green Monday you ‘cut off’ the nose of Sarakosti, and then each weekend after you cut each of its legs. Used to be an ‘entertaining’ way for kids to celebrate/follow lent.
