  1. The list of embarrassing news for Sweden caused by their NATO application have become quite long.

I don’t get it. Have the public in Sweden shifted this much? From “We don’t want to join” to “We’ll do anything”?

Sweden should simply tell NATO that if the alliance can’t accept that freedom of speech and separation of powers are core values for Sweden then they simply cannot join at this point. This mess should be NATOs job to fix.

  2. Dear Swedes, tell your government to stop being such a pussies. I know being a pussy is a swedish genetic trait but you have to fight against it.

Bowing to authoritarians in things like this won’t make you to become a NATO member faster.

  3. I honestly don’t see why Turkey keeps trying to tell people it never happened, it’s like the Streisand effect, the more you try to hide it the more people will give the issue attention. Just admit the genocide, pay reparations and take responsibility for your governments actions…

  4. Funny. Turks killed Armenians 110 years ago. Europe is now realizing(!). Did you realize decades later when the Germans massacred the Jews? Confront your own genocides before blaming others. Sweden sterilized Lapp women and prevented them from reproducing.

  5. Sweden you could just agree with Turkey, join NATO and then have a massive Koran Book Burning day where you commemorate the Armenian Genocide and parade piggies with Erdogans face around

  6. I don’t understand why our government has been so adamant in placating Turkey. It’s incredibly unpopular and it will cost them in the next election.

This isn’t our mess to clean up. Your alliance member has a fundamental lack of respect for our democratic principles in an alliance designed to protect democracies. It’s been quite disheartening to see the US but especially the EU being so quite about this.

I had been hopeful that they had reached some sort of behind the scenes deal to let Erdogan use this for the upcoming election and then if he wins he’ll let us in but this indicates that there was no such deal.

I understand Turkeys comparative geopolitical importance but let’s not pretend like Turkey would hesitate in dishonoring article 5.

  7. Massive W for Turke.. Erdogan, massive L for the Swedish government.

Erdo got what he wanted. Now it’s in Swedish politicians’ hands to learn from their mistakes before it’s too late.

  8. It’s insane how the people shrug their shoulders and the politicians suddenly went ballistic for NATO. The vast majority don’t really care that much and then these guys bend over for anything. Most people really aren’t in to these news, people don’t really talk about it.it’s bizarre

  9. This is also an indirect insult to the Assyrian genocide considering Armenians commemorate it with them.

there are approximately 150,000 Assyrians/Syriacs in Sweden.

Armenians in Sweden are Armenians immigrants and their descendants living in Sweden. The number of Armenians is estimated at 13,000.

[Ignatius Mouradgea d’Ohsson (31 July 1740 – 27 August 1807) was an Armenian orientalist, historian and diplomat in Swedish service.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignatius_Mouradgea_d%27Ohsson)

  10. As an ethnic Armenian who has spent much time in Sweden, this is disheartening. Oh well, there’s always Finland (equally lovely country).

  11. This government is a mistake the swedish voters are going to regret for a long time. They seem incapable of doing the right things, domestically and internationally. Let’s see how long the right wing coalition will hold up, the polling is not good for them.

  12. Man blir ju fan inte klok på ryggradslösheten. Finns fan inget som rättfärdigar denna regerings hanterande av NATO-processen. Idioti och skam.

  13. They’re sucking Turkish dick until they get NATO ratified, then they’ll go back to normal. Lame, but understandable.

  14. I love how the Big Strong Serious Patriarchal Parties invariably turn into bootlickers, no matter where in the world. Almost as reliably as their Strong, Manly, Serious and Responsible Economic Policy always turns out to be completely baseless. If only people would learn. But they never do.

  15. Politicians without backbones? Lol. Not anything unique. We Armenians still love you Swedish people. One A**hole doesn’t represent your entire people and we appreciate the Commemorations you have given thus far. All this does is shine more light onto the Turkish Denial Machine. Their entire Modern Nation was built off the backs of stolen wealth from Genocide. I understand governments trying to hide this truth but their public is willfully ignorant as well. Dangerous NATO partner so be careful trying to appease them. Also, fish out the comments from Turkey in this post you will realize a pattern of denial.
