Welsh mum offered abortion at 22 weeks after doctors said her baby would not survive birth, but she’s still here 18 months later

  1. Now I’m forced to wonder how many more mothers had to deal with such grief and didn’t have to.

It’s a hard one, sure Doctors can get it wrong but when it comes to something like this, they need to be more prepared and accurate, a life could of been ended over a mistake.

I’m also forced to wonder if they lied from the start, but I rather not have my trust in NHS Nurses and Doctors shaken ( considering the lie would of been revealed like it was just now)

  2. I love how the title leaves out all the health problems the little girl has.

As much as I believe in right to life, I fully believe that sometimes the best decision is an abortion. That poor little girl has gone through so much suffering already.

  3. Fuck off right-to-life. Women have a right to abortion and control of their own body. Stop peddling your bullshit and get in the sea.

  4. That website isn’t biased at all…

And the poor little mite isn’t well at all.

‘Esmay’s problems were not over though as she had numerous additional medical problems. As well as being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, she “also has a diagnosis of focal epilepsy, global developmental delay, scoliosis of the spine, and we’ve just found out that Esmay has an issue with her blood in which her body doesn’t produce enough insulin”, her mum said.

“When she’s poorly, even with an average cold, it puts her in hospital because her blood sugar levels drop to a really low level so she requires insulin shots”.

‘Esmay requires round-the-clock care and the family is not sure how long they will have with her.’

I don’t see how this is the positive story the headline makes out.

  5. That’s a nice story but it’s still a good thing mum got to choose as the baby has a myriad of life limiting health concerns that must take a lot of hard work.

  6. Fuck RIGHT off with this imported american bullshit, we’re better than this

This poor child will have a miserable, painful life. The mother will have a miserable life trying to care for the child. And for what? Just so you nutters can contribute to the culture wars needlessly dividing out society.

    You people are sick.

  7. So, she was offered a choice, and made one. What’s the problem here?

If a pregnancy is unwanted for any reason, that choice should be there.

  8. y’all should read up “manufactured consent”, and look at the recently greatly increased focus on abortion in the media.

  9. Firstly doctors are not infallible, people surprise them all the time.

Secondly it’s more likely they predicted it would be unlikely she survives birth, than outright saying she won’t.

Thirdly, given that list of medical problems it sounds like their assessment of her profound health needs making live birth unlikely was not an unreasonable view.

Fourthly, beating the odds and surviving birth, to have a short life, with minimal quality of life and extensive, constant care needs is not the “hah the doctors were wrong” the headline implies.

Offering a mother an informed choice about the options following the diagnosis of life altering or limiting disabilities is entirely right and proper. If the mother elects to continue the pregnancy that is her choice.

    >in hospital because her blood sugar levels drop to a really low level so she requires insulin shots

If her blood sugar is low, an insulin shot will make it worse, given insulin lowers your blood sugar?

  10. It’s a bit painful reading all the comments here wishing that this child had been aborted or hadn’t survived, if you’re pro-choice then that means supporting the choice to not have an abortion as well as the choice to have one.

  11. That baby isn’t normal though. You can see it. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to raise a child with special needs. I would do it if I had to, but If I could choose, it would be no.

  12. “Right to life” because that’s not a bias website at all. Women have autonomy over their bodies in this country, take this bullshit back to the US.
