Fucking hell, the standard of education over at ITV
> South Wales Police said this has confirmed their use of live facial recognition is not bias
BIASED. Bias is a noun or a verb, never an adjective.
“In part of its findings, it said despite there being no clear evidence the technology was biased on grounds of race or sex, the force had not done all they could to verify this.”
While I get that it’s on the police to prove this, it is kinda wild that people can just point at a bit of technology and say “racist” or “sexist”
Plus, as the article says, the tech doesn’t decide who is stopped. It’s still up to the officers.
“does not discriminate based on gender, age or ethnicity” – yet this is a requirement for describing and identifying any suspect.
Looking forward to the helpful police search bulletins where they state “we are looking for an entity assigned ‘human’ at birth.”
But given the population of Wales is 93% white there’s a lot less opportunity for the race card to be played by/against suspects and criminals; so it’s not surprising they report no risk of bias.
>Data associated with a match is kept for up to 24 hours but in the event of no match, the data is immediately and automatically deleted
Bullshit. I refuse to believe that in light of the number of times that DNA data collected for a specific crime has “accidentally” been added to the NPD. Once the police have data they will keep it, and not admit it.
Facial recognition isn’t even allowed in casinos, how tf is it available to police ???
