> Within his own party, the Taoiseach is facing a rising drumbeat of discontent among backbenchers following the latest poll which puts the party’s support at just 15%.
> Unease is particularly high over the Taoiseach’s decision to take a leadership role on housing, which TDs say has had the effect of deflecting public anger away from Fianna Fáil and the minister in charge, Mr O’Brien, and directing it back to Fine Gael.
> One senior party TD said: ‘Leo has put us front and centre in the blame game [over housing]. It was tactically inept; everyone knows housing is unsolvable until supply can catch up with demand.
> ‘There is a Fianna Fáil minister for housing – let them take the blame. Why attach yourself to it and call yourself the Taoiseach for housing when you don’t have any solutions yourself?’
> Another Fine Gael backbencher said the Government’s decision to lift the temporary eviction ban without having an effective plan B in place ‘has landed us in a dreadful place’.
> They added: ‘The housing issue is destroying us in middle Ireland. It’s not even the homeless… it’s the two 30 something children in the home with them [parents] who can’t find a place to live. That is what will open the door to Sinn Féin.’
“There is a Fianna Fáil minister for housing – let them take the blame.”
That line sums up this government to be honest, lets point the finger at someone else….

They don’t actually care about the effect of the housing crisis on the public, just their electability.
You’d think they’d have taken the results of the last GE as a fairly significant warning to get their shit together, but no…
” **Many** [**Fine Gael**](http://extra.ie/tag/fine-gael/) **TDs who now fear they will lose their seats in an electoral wipe-out** ”
That’s the story. All they care about.
People forget that before FF blew themselves up that FG had not got a sniff of government for 20 years – and the reason was because they were very bad at it.
Slán Libh.
Fair point that O’Brien as a FF minister has little to no incentive to fix housing when it hurts FG .
Lol FG have been in power for over a decade. FF definitely have fingerprints on the housing crisis considering the 08 collapse. But FG can’t just put an FF housing minister in and act like they haven’t mismanaged it for the 5 years before that.
I’m no sf supporter, but lets face it fg had a decade to build housing and they only started right now, they were warned that because of increased immigration and economic growth we would need more housing, but they didn’t listen and didn’t build any where near enough housing for a growing economy like ours was. you can’t even blame covid, ukraine or inflation as those weren’t issues when the housing crisis was happening. fg did a lot of good in reviving the economy, but they absolutely failed to actually build enough capacity for our growth. instead now they are blaming sf who aren’t even in power as opposed to maybe reflecting on their own failures.

Are you fucking serious with this shite?
A mad thing with these type of articles is no one ever goes on the record and then they say what they like.
In the article linked above, I counted 11 separate sources with not one of them named.
I appreciate sometimes TDs will need to speak off the record but these sort of articles are rife in Irish politics, RTE does them too.
There is a need for sources to sometimes remain anonymous but there is also a danger that this can be taken too far. This is too far IMO.
Who is to say the journalist hasn’t just made the entire article up and invented every one of those quotes?
**One senior party TD said: ‘Leo has put us front and centre in the blame game [over housing].**
Does he honestly think everyone was blaming just FF? He probably also thought people were blaming SF…since blaming SF on everything seems to be FGs go t excuse
It’s funny that FG tds think Leo trying to take charge of housing issue is gonna lose them their seats and not their government of the last 10 years
This is fucking hilarious.
Thinking they are gonna lose their seats because Leo taking charge of housing and not the stagnation of the last 10 years and their policies that have left alot of the country worse off year after year
TL;DR “Oh no! If SF…”
Typical Leo talking about the housing problem, he’s been in power for long enough to have it solved by now and did nothing. He’s only talking about it now because he thinks the Irish people are stupid enough to be taken in by him again.
I say give Sinn Fein a go they can’t be any worse than those we trusted for so long and let us down so badly.
Lads, it’s a Daily Mail article. They literally make them up.
They really are an odd bunch FFG, I mean they do sweet fuck all for about 10-14 years and pull a surprised pikachu face that they are not doing well in the polls.
How they function in real life is beyond me. They live in fantasy land.
