“The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill has been condemned as “draconian” by experts across the political spectrum. It will effectively hand powers to police – and Home Secretary Priti Patel – to shut down protests in England and Wales at will, while forcing social workers to betray the trust of vulnerable young people.
Lawyers warned the Government the proposals in the bill “clearly violate international human rights standards”.
UK is a minority elected dictatorship.
Anybody who has issues with this, but no issues with the government creating a 2 tier society for people who have and haven’t undergone a medical procedure are morally defunct.
In regards to protest there are no new laws being created by this bill, it simply transfers existing common law into a statute. Protests and protesters have always been conditional and nothing new is being added.
Edit: Ah, downvotes but no discussion. Stay classy you lot, I’d love to have it pointed out what new laws are being created. The article itself only discusses the notion of ‘annoyance’ being the discerning factor but at no point mentions that annoyance has its own specific legal definition.
“The bill would allow police to crackdown on protesters if their actionscause “serious annoyance” to the surrounding community, **organisations**and **businesses**.”
So corporations (Tory donors) are going to dictate what is acceptable for protestors to protest? Don’t want a big corporate chain across from your kids school? Tough. We need to vote out the Tories asap before they really start to implement their dreams (our dystopian nightmare).
