  1. Why, to drive a car, I need a licence, to have a firearm, I need a permit, but to own a dog, I don’t even need a third party insurance? Down-vote all you want, but I think there should be regulations in this area because people just ignore the need to train their dogs and keep good care of them.

  2. Were you guys jealous of America and their school shootings, and wanted to have your own thing?

Your politicians are usually so reactionary, but it doesn’t seem like people are motivated to do anything legislative about this. People getting killed by dogs is just a thing that happens now, is it?

  3. >Derbyshire Police said a man arrested in connection with the incident remains in custody.

    Charge him with manslaughter.

  4. Are dog attacks getting more frequent? Or is the reporting for it picking up ?

Only reason I could imagine dog attacks increasing is we are seeing all those poorly trained/ socialised lockdown dogs reaching maturity and that poor training coming home to roost.

  5. Time for pitbull style breeds to be extinct.

Want to feel hard? Join a boxing gym.

Too lazy? Then just stay in the pub puffing your chest out and walking round the pool table like you’ve got two invisible barrels under each arm.

These breeds are for bullies, drug dealers and people who, bizarrely, want to be hated by normal society.

    Get rid.

  6. It’s getting ridiculous.
Honestly think there should be some sort of license to be able to own powerful large breeds.
I’ve seen a rise of status dogs and I’m in semi-rural fairly “middle-class” area , Caucasian shepherds, kangals, xlbullys, it’s obscene, like who needs a livestock guardian in the UK anyway FFS, let alone in a house.

Had no choice but to walk past a 4ft small guy syndrome the otherday with my two small dogs , he had this oversized ridgeback that had zoned on us even from a distance, lunging and barking, honestly was the size of a small pony.

Unbelievably intimidating and I work with dogs for a living so genuinely worried for good reason for my dogs safety if that dog manages to pull him over.
But all the more often I’m seeing all these x-large breeds dragging their owners around , not in control, overarousal, understimulated= disaster

  7. If the dog belonged to someone other than the victim they should be prosecuted for this death.

If you want to own a dog like this you shouldn’t be allowed to.

  8. I have neighbours opposite us. Normally it’s a safe area as I live on a close and their front door is probably 10m from ours.

My daughters 22 months and normally when were leaving, I let her step outside and lead the way while I’m behind & she loves petting dogs.

Stepped outside yesterday with my daughter behind me and there was a guy halfway between our place & the neighbours with an American Bulldog. Dude had the thing on a piece of string.

I decided to carry my daughter past it for obvious reasons but when we got out of sight, the neighbours opened their door and the bulldog charged towards their sausage dog. Dude couldn’t even hold it back but gladly the neighbours shut their door in time.

  9. I work in Derby and have seen what appeared to be an American XL Bully on a street next to where this happened, looking completely out of control.

It was pretty stressful watching kids walk past it, so sadly this sort of thing no surprise.

  10. I don’t understand why people need these sorts of dog. There seems to be nothing that’s done about it at all. I’m not saying take dogs off people who have them already, but there’s plenty of dogs needing homes that aren’t breeds which have literally been designed to kill.

You wouldn’t want everyone on your street having an Akita, and if they started being common, shouldn’t something be done to stop them from being bred?

  11. Certain dogs are genetically predisposed to violence, and no amount of training can change the genome.
Instead of a banned breeds list, there should be an approved breeds list, which can’t be circumvented by devious breeders.

  12. I’ve had 4 run ins with aggressive dogs in the last 12 months. That’s 4 more than the previous 20 + years. Something has to change.

  13. Would this person be banned from being able to keep a dog again? A question that always pops into my head with these dog attacks… surely they must be banned?!
