Apologies for the poor description but I dont have much info on what I am looking for.

I am in England with a Polish member of staff. I received a holiday booking from him to return back to Poland for a few days – apparently he needs to present himself at a recruitment centre in person due to recently turning 18 to prevent some kind of legal action?

I’ve run into a problem of having other members of staff off at the same time and need to prove that what he saying is legitimate. Asked him for some kind of info and was sent the below link which just seems like a list of recruitment centres

Can anyone here provide me with some information relating to this?

  1. Why do you even care? Dude asks for some time off and you need to validate it? Is this Europe or USA? If I were this person I’d probably start looking for another job.

  2. Every 18 years old boy in Poland need to military comission to show his balls and take a message that “in day of war you should…”

  3. yes, he needs to go back, they will assign him a military category and that’s basically all.

  4. Registering for military “database” basically.

  5. This is still a thing? National service was abolished in the 90s.

  6. He didnt have to provide you with any reasoning to his holidays request. English law dont put this requirement on the employee. He provided you with all info you requested and you still decided to double check this info with randoms on internet. Why you decided to scrutinise holiday request form Polish boy but you have not thought about it before you allowed other employee to take thos time off? Something telling me that this lad would be much better with other employers than you so I hope he will not return to working for you.

  7. Ive got a very similar situation, I just sent them a letter saying I’ve emigrated to the UK and that’s it.

  8. I received something like that too back when I turned 18. Luckily I lived out of the country already so I simply told them I don’t live in Poland anymore and ignored it. Haven’t had any problems

  9. Idziesz do WKU na komisję wojskową. Pielęgniarka sprawdza czy masz platfus i obydwa jądra. Potem dają Ci kategorię i tyle.

  10. And remember that it’s strictly prohibited to take military booklet with you abroad!

Poland hasn’t done mandatory military service for close to 20 years (and I know that because my generation was the last it was required from), but in legal terms it’s only indefinitely suspended rather than abolished and every male Polish citizen who finishes 18 years of age is legally required to present for a service category evaluation and is them assigned to reserve status. Anyone with an A grade can in theory be randomly called to participate in basic training (but it’s probably not the case for your guy for reasons I’ll explain later)

Here’s the legal act (in Polish but you should be able to run it through Google Translate, DeepL or whatever): https://isap.sejm.gov.pl/isap.nsf/download.xsp/WDU19670440220/U/D19670220Lj.pdf

    The relevant bits:

He’s exempt if he’s a dual citizen and his permanent residence is registered outside Polish territory

It is also true that he may face legal reprecussions for failure to appear – these involve a fine and/or being arrested to be bought to the commission by force:

He may be able to sort this out by reporting to the replenishment commander appropriate to his place of permanent residence,

    > > [Art. 34. Obowiązek ten trwa do czasu ukończenia pięćdziesięciu pięciu lat życia, a w razie ogłoszenia mobilizacji i w czasie wojny – do czasu ukończenia sześćdziesięciu lat życia.](https://isap.sejm.gov.pl/isap.nsf/download.xsp/WDU19670440220/U/D19670220Lj.pdf)

In his case, rather than to WKU he might be able to report to a Polish consulate (but if he received a summons that document likely did not inform him of it):

    > > [Art. 25. 1. Do przeprowadzania czynności związanych z wykonywaniem powszechnego obowiązku obrony oraz do współdziałania z organami wojskowymi w zakresie określonym w art. 24 ust.

Finally, all that aside, if he’s residing outside of Poland the law exempts him from being summoned to active service afterwards – if he applies for a written decision to the WKU replenishment commander (I guess in this case: the consulate) – unless he moves back into Poland for 3 months or more:

    > > [Art. 44. 1.

  12. This happened to me I have lived in the UK since 2004 but I have a Polish citizenship, in 2018 on my birthday I had to sort this out aswell because I got the letter.

  13. What happen if you don’t have dual citizenship (Polish citizen living abroad since childhood) and ignore the letter? There might be any issue if you go back as a tourist, like 15 years later?

  14. I had same thing – moved to uk when I was 13. However we told them I’m moving. So when I was 18/19 I went there by my own choice and wanted to have the „książeczka wojskowa” – that prompted the letter and the necessity to go to the “wojskowa komisja lekarska” where they did bunch of tests (actually useful info for me) and that was it.
Got given A and moved to reserve. Now I only cringe at the photo I have them but I have regulated my need to serve
