Lol I had never heard about this school and now they are twice mentioned in the media in a few days. I´m pretty sure this is the school prince Laurent ran away from because it was so horrible.
Sounds like a fun school.
If you´re being assaulted at least do it within reasonable hours, right? /s
Two week suspension because they arrived late once? They don’t mess around there.
Damage control on the good old Christian way.
“We don’t approve of the assault, but at least she could have returned in time”
If you decide to break rules and stay out later than allowed – and then you get assaulted, you could at least wonder if you get punished for it.

Like if I stayed out way past what was allowed, then got robbed and hit, and then got suspended. People wouldn’t be saying outrageous, but “yeah, that’s why we needed you inside on time”.
Point being: just because something happened doesn’t mean you can’t still be punished for your actions. And it’s not like we don’t know what happened:
“Die feiten hebben zich afgespeeld op het moment dat de leerlingen eigenlijk al terug in het hotel moesten zijn, daarvoor zijn ze nu gestraft.”

She was late and then got assaulted.
Fucked up. But still doesn’t change that she stayed late and broke rules
Weet je wat grappig zou zijn?
“De aanklacht was niet waar, ik heb gelogen omdat ik laat was en ik geen strafstudie wou krijgen”.
Volgende week in de krant, let op mijn woorden!
I feel like the school is doing panic damage control and misjudged that this decision is not only weird but also will give them even more negative publicity. As demonstrated.
I can imagine that they reasoned like this: “if we don’t punish her now, we will give the impression to other parents that we allow students to be late and that we don’t take our responsibility. It’s wrong, I don’t condone it. But I think that’s how they thought about it. Of course it backfired.
Ah yes, adding insult to injury, in true christian fashion.
Never knew Stannis Baratheon ran a school in Belgium
