It’s going to be quite funny in 20 years time, with a depressed population, everything overpriced with shitty quality, little to no tourism and 90% vacant properties.
I say funny, as people in power cannot understand the word sad.

Government red tape aka “safety standards and minimum wages”
It’s already claustrophobic! I do not want to be more claustrophobic. The amount of dust is causing me more allergic reactions and to some people asthma. These people think about money 💰 and not about people’s health!
Only the people at the top care about constant economic growth at the expense of the environment, affordable housing, efficient transport options and public services.
Its long past time to change the mindset and start focusing on the well-being of the people and the environment. There needs to find a balance between economic growth and sustainability.
But…as its the people at the top that benefit then nothing will change for the better.
>A young couple who bought an apartment for €250,000 could have probably bought it for €230,000 and the developer would have still make enough money to be happy, the MDA boss says. But unnecessary bureaucracy in construction has swollen to a point where it is now driving property prices up needlessly.
istra.. what difference does 20k make when buying a property honestly.. we need property reduced by the hundred thousands not mere tens..
I don’t believe in hell but I really hope some sort of punishment exists for such an evil little man.
Me, my wife and kids . Both professionals and academics are leaving this island once for all thanks to these assholes. No wonder all youths are leaving and they really should
This man belongs in a Dickens book…
I had to read this in two separate sessions because my stomach started to churn and burn.
It makes me mad that we can’t get building standards, permits, and inspections up high like Northern Europe. I want to buy a new maisonette but I don’t trust it won’t be full if mould later with no insulation or fall on me in an earthquake.
The lies and arrogance and blatant corruption are shocking. So take aways..
A. He talks about tourism but he really means migration. Now think about this. Migration plays a role to attracted skilled people such as nurses and engineers etc. but this is not what is happening in Malta, we have migration for the sole purpose of selling property which only a few people benefit from, stretches resources to breaking point. There is not a country on earth that does this .. notable exception is Dubai but that is totally different, there is no migration in Dubai, more of a long term stay in one particular city in a bigger country.
And the resources of the country have been diverted to sell migration. Tax payers money are going to promote the business of the construction industry. They are spending millions on promotion and that includes promoting Malta to the lgbtq community and paying millions in advertising to magazines that cater for them, they are selling tax evasion, they are lying and deceiving to promote Malta were they have to.
And their is no reciprocity. There are no agreements between countries that allows Maltese to benefit from mutual agreements with other countries. If a Maltese wants to go study or work, a qualified person, he will find massive obstacles while his own country is over run by nationals of the countries he is blocked from, and they don’t even pay taxes when they compete with him.
We have a situation where a group of people have corrupted a country and the laws of the country are being broken to accommodate their business. For example a Maltese is taxed on his world wide income but the people buying passports are 100% tax free. There is actually illegal under the law, but the department concerned, the ITU is instructed to break laws.
The tax regime of 5% for foreign owned companies is based on active criminal activity of the Maltese government. Once the government gives them back 6 euros for every 7 euros they pay in taxes, they are required to declare this reimbursement and get taxed were they are resident .. including Malta if that is were they are resident. But the ITU will send money to third parties so it’s not traceable by the other tax authorities.
It’s a total collapse of democracy on a massive scale. A failed corrupt mafia state that is a pariah on the world stage, a country were being born Maltese is a curse and anything you go to any decent country you can expect to be berated and insulted and decent people walk away from you when they find out you are from Malta.
Unless off course you are some minister in a brothel, then you can brag you are from Malta.
In short, Malta is now a 5 dollar brothel. It does not operate as a sovereign state. It operates as a mafia state where international laws are flouted and criminals thrive.
Welcome to Bangladesh

Ah yes the Malta Developer’s Association, of course it is. I am sure they are all lovely people with absolutely no corruption or controversies behind them /s
>There is a perception that developers generally do as they please in an unregulated industry. But Michael Stivala insists this is further from the truth: he claims apartments would be €10,000 and maybe even €20,000 cheaper if it were not for the complex and unnecessary government red tape.
Housing isn’t expensive as fuck because of government bureaucracy, housing is expensive as fuck because
* There is a high demand as a result of the large amount of foreign workers
* Lower income foreign workers will be much more later to share flats among large numbers of people, giving them an affordable place to stay, even if the conditions are about as nice as a slaughterhouse, and giving a big payday to these fatfuck landlords
* Higher income foreign workers (like the Swedes, Brits and Germans that came here during the big gambling boom) can afford the higher rents and back when those companies came over here, their workers on average had more income and savings than the average Maltese person. As a result, they could actually afford higher rents in areas such as Sliema, which then led to landlords saying “If people can afford paying X, they can afford paying another €100-€200 on rent” and that process has continued
* Because the quickest way for rich foreigners to obtain a Maltese passport is to buy a property. Those millionaires and billionaires won’t care if something is overpriced as for them it’s still a cheap and affordable way of getting a Maltese passport
Fuck the Malta Developer’s Association, that cabal has done what they want for too long now. They’ve bribed their way into the Planning Authority, Parliament and government. They are fucking psychopaths.
The uncomfortable truth is that we should start demolishing the junk that has ben foisted on us and rehabilitatng spoilt land. The sooner, the better.

Dan bil-liba jew? If anything we actually need more red tape to protect the [people working in the construction industry from dying from preventable deaths](https://timesofmalta.com/articles/view/jean-paul-sofia-parents-blame-death-construction-site-developers.1018443), and to [protect people from developers’ horrible practices causing people’s fucking houses to collapse!](https://timesofmalta.com/articles/view/architects-guilty-miriam-paces-death-get-suspended-sentence.971045)

[Housing prices are double what they were a decade ago](https://timesofmalta.com/articles/view/challenging-future-housing-market-property-prices-double-since-2013.965336). Does that sound sustainable at all? Should we listen to the people that got us into this mess? Fuck no.
