Why is this even an issue?, there is no down side to widely available contraception ,it has been proven to be an effective way to reduce STD and unwanted pregnancies.

I don’t understand it, one thing is being against abortion, which is a whole different debate I am not going to talk about, but we are taking about contraception which is safe, effective and HAS BEEN PROVEN to reduce sexual health problems
Need to get out of the dark ages here..
This is ignorance at its best. Fucking close-minded fanatics.
This does make some good points. For example the pill does not prevent STDs just pregnancy and it does not agree with everyone. While some might experience little to no side effects there are also quite a few that have more severe side effects.
Especially when it comes to the emergency contraceptive. The emergency contraceptive pill has higher chance of side effects such as causing blood clots and nausea plus repeated use will reduce its effectiveness.
Also imo Women should always make men wear condoms and men should be taught to accept that. Just because us men might find it slightly uncomfortable or have slightly less sensation is really not a valid reason to forgo condoms when the alternative is risking stds or unwanted pregnancies.
As for the part were it mentions ending a life with emergency contraceptive, that is silly to me.
EDIT: I would also like to add that the current way of providing free medicines is horribly inefficient. Considering how many different contraceptive pills there are and how often some people need to change them due to incompatibilities it will be a nightmare in logistics. First off to apply for free medicines you always need to see a government doctor regardless whether the medicine is OTC or not. The doctor will evaluate what medicines you need and if you are eligible and apply for a schedule V paper and then you need to choose a single pharmacy from were you will have to pick up this medicine. You have to show the pharmacy the prescription and the valid sch v paper just so they can order the pills, which can take up to a week just to order. If there is a change in medication you have to see govt doctor again and get new prescription with an edited sch v paper or other relevant permit and show it to pharmacy so that they can order new medicine for you. Please also note pharmacies have to order the new medicine every time specifically from the government and cannot give out from their private stock as it is almost always different brands and cannot be interchanged.
TL;DR BEUROCRATIC NIGHTMARE.
So maybe lets first fix how people get free medicines in the first place. Easier said than done.
EDIT2: I am not religious at all btw and i am all for educating people and that teaching abstinence clearly doesn’t work. However giving out free contraceptives is a bit too much.
I agree with your statement about the letter however there’s another thing that’s irritating me – can anyone explain to me why this woman keeps portraying herself as a Dr. when all she’s qualified in is *bsc. Dentistry* and *ma. Bioethics?* People in medical school generally distinguish themselves as MDs?
Because as I see it, it seems like a person’s lying about their qualifications to try make their opinion *”more legitimate”*.
Closed minded religious zeolots at it again.
Maltese-Canadian here.
In parts of Canada you can get some of these things without a prescription at a pharmacy. It has proven to be very effective that when you give people who can get pregnant/women the right to access these items, without burden, the population as a whole is healthier in many aspects for it.
I know a number of people who are against abortion, but they are not against the morning-after pill or giving free condoms, because they actually want less unwanted births and they **know** that giving free contraceptives works in ensuring less unwanted pregnancies.
These people at Life Network are fucking imbeciles.
And they mention alcohol and drugs in a way that clearly is trying to blame unwanted pregnancies on people for being drunk etc.
Christ this letter reads like it’s from the 18th century.
I would really like to know how many of them are using contraceptive. Many of them are planning safe sex ,for unplanned pregnancy they are giving birth.my comment may not be up to mark ,but are contraceptive making their way
“Oh no, the Catholics are protesting against the government giving me free stuff using taxpayers money so that I can live my degenerate, promiscuous lifestyle.”
we’re so backwards sometimes it’s sad to see, we’re still teaching abstinence as the number one way to prevent pregnancy and std’s
Literally the most valid pro-life choice?? Contraception stops a lot of the issues related to sex from happening, and then there is no baby to abort. Problem solved.
You should see the pro-Lifers here in America, this is tame and polite by our standards of stupidity
