And the German government still believe they are going to save the world by shutting down coal-fired power stations and building more bike lanes… #savingtheworld 😌
How long will it take China to catch up with the EU-28? 15-20 years?
Russia should be with Asia
How is Ukraine counted. Wouldn’t it be difficult to asses Ukraine specifically out of its time between 1750 and 1925?
Now show per capita figures.
It would be much more useful if it were per capita.
EU is not a country, why do all other countries get their own square and EU get only one. In 1750 each European countries were rivals, very distinct and they still are in some way today. Compare the co2 emission of Poland and France for example, it’s pointless to group us, we don’t share responsibilities.
Since 1750 seems a rather irrelevant metric. The West went through the industrial revolution much earlier than everyone else. And it wasn’t until 30-40 years ago that production moved to Asia.
I imagine the west’s responsible has reduced by a noticeable amount since 2017 when this was published.
How many 18th C decades of emissions are achieved in a year today ?
Whyyyy is Turkey in the Europe group and not the Asian group? >95% of the country is in Asia
a vintage graph from the good old times when the UK was still under EU-28
Irrelevant. Over 90% of emissions precipitate in the carbon cycle in 50 years or so. Around 50% after 20 years. This makes the graph extremely misleading if it wanted to show responsability for current trends because most of the European and US emissions have been reabsorbed in time by the environment.
This without considering countries that don’t even exist now not appearing there like the Soviet Union. It is also logically unclear how are colonies considered.
That’s pretty good for China, every product is made there. The rest of the countries are just spending the CO2 on their own well being.
That’s why Brazil has a point when they’re laughing at the demands to immediately seize using its natural resources (Amazon) to the fullest.
They are a country of over 200m people yet have contributed very little to the climate crisis. However the country’s goverment is being portrayed as one of the biggest climate villains on earth. All for using the same natural ancient forests that Western countries almost completely annihilated long ago during their own economic ascent.
It will be interesting to see a comparison in ten years time. China used more cement between 2011 and 2013 than the US used in the whole of the 20th Century.
That’s why we must force Bhutan to shut down their coal plants.
Not cool to group France with the rest on this one…
1750?
And they included Africa and South America? What a fucking joke.
Wait… where’s the UK?
Geninuely thought that we would be top here. That’s the impression that I have always had, you know, first to kick off all this nonsense, greatest recipient of all the emissions.

Why calculate from 1750 ?
