Less than a year in prison for electrician who punched banker to death over mobile phone

  1. JSO protester is a twat and blocks road: 4 years in prison.

Random bloke kills someone: Less than a year in prison.

Piece of shit rapes teen girl in Scotland: No prison.

What the fuck is going on with our criminal justice system, it’s working backwards. How is it even possible in law for judges to do this?

  2. I saw the clip of what happened. It’s truly horrific and senseless and I feel so bad for the victims family. The victims sister not only lost this brother, but, her other brother who drank himself to death as he couldn’t cope.

The asshole should’ve got a much harsher sentence.

  3. Not surpised to hear when the now ‘sacked’ Justice Secretary told Judges to stop given longer prison terms because of risk of overcrowding in the prisons.

  4. I am surprised there aren’t more vigilante attacks in England after incidents like this with pathetic sentencing

  5. The headline is designed to make us feel ok about this, otherwise why would it even be necessary to mention their professions.

  6. Slightly misleading headline. Was sentenced to three years and nine months but has already spent time in prison.

Still seems a short sentence for manslaughter though.

  7. >He fell backwards and banged his head on the ground.

this is why you absolutely never fight on concrete unless it is truly a last resort. every single punch is a potential murder.

  8. His “defence” sounds like a load of horseshit. He was concerned for the welfare of his ‘mate’, so he beats a complete stranger to death.

  9. and protestors are getting upwards of 2 years? what was it those bridge climbers got, 5-7 years? yet literal murder gets less than a year?! what the fuck is wrong with this country where people disturbing the peace for a good cause get more time than murderers???

  10. How it played out makes little sense, the murderer sounds unhinged and looking to cause harm.

*The Old Bailey heard that Allan, from Hook in Hampshire, had been drinking with a friend in the West End on the day in question, but had decided to stay outside when his companion went into another venue.*

*He became paranoid about the welfare of his friend and convinced himself that the man’s mobile phone had been stolen.*

*Tragically, Allan rang his friend’s number at the exact moment that Mr Mason happened to be walking past and received a call on his own phone.*

*In an incident captured on CCTV, Allan was seen approaching Mr Mason and demanding to know if it was his friend’s handset.*

*Mr Mason attempted to move away from the confrontation, but witnesses saw Allan deliver a series of blows, which caused him to fall and bang his head on the ground.*

That’s nuts. I don’t read that and think he was ‘concerned about the welfare of his friend’, that’s a guy high on coke unhinged. To invent the scenario where his mate’s phone was stolen, he invented that. The guy is genuinely dangerous and should be in an institution, seriously.

  11. Alcohol fuelled murder; uk society needs to get a grip on public drinking disorder offences & control of sale/consumption.
Should have been life sentence, no one forced electrician to binge drink , hence consequence.

  12. Well when you have Cressida Dick getting an MBE despite a complete and total breakdown of the Police it doesnt help. Not to mentikn an inept Court and Prison system…. This is the end result.

What a farce. The UK is free-for-all for Crime.

  13. Reading the article he was actually sentenced to 3 years and 9 months. The sensationalist “less than a year” is due to time spent on remand.

  14. It’s horrific, but I’m confused what “electrician” and “banker” add to the story? Comes across a bit like shorthand for their social class, which is weird in the circumstances, given we’re hardly gonna think it’s ok to kill him anyway.

  15. The UK, where crime is legal if you want it.

Or rather if a judge wants it judging by people going to prison for longer than this just from standing in a road

  16. Both Tories and Labour are talking about being tough on crime without mentioning more prison capacity.

This political deadlock is making any solutions impossible. We need new actors, parties or any serious alternative.

  17. >He was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, but is likely to be released in less than a year, having spent time on curfew awaiting trial.

There is no sane legal system on earth where this devaluation of a life is justice.

  18. Sparkie sparks Barclays shark in smartphone snafu. A mistaken LG landed him in GL. Now he can only call from his cell.

  19. Oh for fuck’s sake. So, now you can murder someone and get less then a year but protest? You will rot in prison.

I fucking hate our lentient as fuck, system.

  20. The pattern is that threats to the state (or it’s bestest friends) have the full force of the law thrown at them, while threats to the public are seen as a lesser problem.

  21. Anyways the only person who appears to be belligerent here is you. I shared my own brief experience and here you are with an opinion that no one asked for.

  22. Punching a banker would have been OK. Killing a banker makes him public enemy #1???

The guy he killed was a senior manager of the Bank of Qatar. I wonder if he knew something about Trump/Kushner being paid bribes so they tricked a paranoid thug into killing him?

  23. Talk about belligerence, I shared an experience and here you are wading in with your unwelcome opinion. Wouldn’t want to meet you in a pub.

  24. Anyone who is unsatisfied that justice has been served in this instance please consider emailing your MP and the Attorney General to appeal the current sentence as being inadequate and inappropriate.
