>“The resources used could have been allocated to alleviate the serious conditions of families with disabled children who need very expensive drugs that are not provided free of charge”, said Massimo Gandolfini, leader of anti-abortion group Family Day.
this is how stupid these anti abortion people are…
“Italy is set to make contraception medication available for free to women of all ages, a move that’s been celebrated by women’s rights activists nationwide and condemned by anti-abortion advocates.”
A very effective method to reduce the number of abortions. Maybe we should start calling these people ant-women’s rights activists.
Free Viagra might also be beneficial for Italy’s birth rate.
For these people a woman can only be either a nun or a breeding cow, and not only in Italy, I fear.
Free prep and now the pill. That’s awesome 🙂 two really good news in just a couple of days. I wonder if this is the current government’s doing, which is not talking about these things to not upset the more conservative elements of the parties, or something that was started during Draghi’s government.
Wait, I though Italy was already an ultraconservative fascist dictatorship, ever since Meloni was elected. All the journalists said so.
Backlash? From who?
The more I read about Meloni’s government, the better it sounds. I am by no way knowledgeable in Italian politics, but back when her coalition won people were freaking out because of the incoming right-wing storm. And yet from what I have seen so far they’ve been very much opposed to Russia, and now free birth control. If I am missing something let me know of course, but so far it doesn’t seem very bad at all.
I wonder if there is one thing that young males get for free and what women don’t. Why there is no free condoms? Living in a world where women have more rights than men is sad and depressing.
A big loupe should be pushed against the small foreheads of those in the “backlash” camp. Because when you have such strong feelings about what a woman does or doesn’t do with her own goddamned body… you’re in the same bracket with politicians who advocate anti-gay measures, only to be found at a gay party, against porn (specific porn) but… get caught with said specific porn… and so on and so forth, we all know the type by now.
Even the most corrupt person is bound by the same human rules as the rest of us. And i’m of the thinking that this isn’t about what the pill does or what it enables, it’s about what those people feel about women and this liberty that shouldn’t even be a matter of question – rather an automatic universal right.
You find that especially telling when their arguments are as stupid as the ones Massimo Gandolfini makes on the topic, an argument so … utterly idiotic, that it makes people want to IQ test the individual on the spot.
The faster we alter the human rights chart to include autonomy of one’s body as a protection against fascist, theocratic and other demented groups, the better. None but the ego should have a voice in what one does with their own body.
“Backlash” a couple of old bigots and a few men on the internet pissed that it doesn’t include condoms it is hardly a backlash.
> birth control pill
In Germany it’s called the anti-baby pill.
There is no backlash, not even in pro-government media, and the position of a single senator doesn’t mean that “the government has spoken against the decision” which is not true at all.
The pill is also used for a myriad of other ailments. These people are not anti-women. These people are anti-not-being-misserable.
There’s no backlash in the country, at all. It’s finally something good.

Does Italy offer free contraception for men too?
