Aquind: Protest held over cross-Channel cable plan

  1. So 200 hundred want to stop the U.K. securing 5% of its energy need because the project could cause noise and air pollution. I must be missing something here.

  2. Something as vital as building stable energy infrastructure for Britain is being blocked by people moaning that traffic near them might be bad for a few months. We’d gain so much as a culture by looking into our national psychosis of NIMBYism, and dismantling it.

  3. Aquind – which is part-owned by Russian-born Victor Fedotov – and another of his businesses have donated £700,000 to 34 Conservative MPs since the Aquind project began, the BBC Panorama programme reported in 2021.

Another director, Ukrainian-born Alexander Temerko, has donated a further £700,000 to the party.

Mr Fedotov said that he “has never had any interest in British politics and has operated in an open and transparent manner”.

£1.4m in donations to a political party in a country where they have no interest in politics.. sounds legit.

  4. Given the way the media chose (in the recent trans book reader protest) to largely NOT point out that the protesters (‘Patriotic Alternative’) had an ideology that [HopeNotHate](https://hopenothate.org.uk/2022/08/05/stop-drag-queen-story-hour-a-new-far-right-campaign-emerges/) describes as “fascist” and

    > “believing that Jewish people are promoting immigration and …causes, such as LGBTQ+ rights, in the supposed hope of weakening white communities and lowering white birth rates”

I’m REALLY keen that the media do their fucking job this time around and report who is organising and funding the protests.

  5. Sounds to be like this area needs emergency legislation to be zoned as a site of special economic interest for nothing but 20 story flats

Fucking NIMBY scum, hope Westminster tells them to eat shit
