Surge in offshore wind farms to generate ‘windfall’ in power exports — EirGrid chief

  1. Good to see. I thought I saw something on Twitter the other day about there being auctions for these projects taking place. Can’t say I saw any article in it’s entirety on it but I really hope we don’t sell off rights to Irish sea territory to foreign or domestic investment funds that will essentially have a multi-year contract with Irish customers, such as we see with the road tolls.

  2. Am i not mistaken in that these are going to be run by private operators (SSE etc) instead of the State? In that case, we won’t be getting that much of a windfall from the energy sales?

Surely, the State should be funding this and operating it themselves instead of selling off our natural resources? We could provide cost energy to the general populace (instead of having to pay SSE higher prices) and could use the exports to make a Sovereign Wealth Fund like Norway?
