Decreasing military expenditure, waning support for the military, protection basically outsourced to the US while we got to act smug about it, economic entanglement as a method of peacekeeping, and what does Russia do? Literally unite most of Europe by reminding them that a nuclear power in the vicinity is still doing conventional landgrab invasions and horrific intentional war crimes if they think they can get away with it.
I’d think the European record for militarisation is still way off.
