These are really beautiful, and amazing that they have survived in such good condition. Makes you wonder about the decadence the upper class of those times enjoyed.
Denmark has such impressive archeological remains, some you wouldn’t believe to find there, such as here with Roman artifacts, or one of the most impressive Celtic/Gaulish artifact ever found: [the Gundestrup cauldron](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundestrup_cauldron) which has an unusual degree of narrative for Celtic Art.
Many other unusual artifacts have been found such as Spanish Umayyad dirhams, one of the most interesting, eclectic and mysterious one is the [Sørup runestone](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%B8rup_runestone) which could be possibly one of the earliest testimony of the Basque language.
These were giveaways with their Felix Meals.
Lovely colors.
Still better than those dam square whiskey glasses
I love them!
My first thought was, “You cant read with those things” Yes, I’m an idiot
So they basically gathered pokemons wirh cups?
That’s quite some time to wait for a refill.
“Obviously, such quality and craftsmanship would not be affordable to the general populace, and thus what we’re looking at would probably have belonged to someone of extremely high status – a king/prince/emperor etc…So, when we examine this royal artefact, we can see that….”
Every archaeological find ever.
Also – no idea what something is? “This was very probably a ritual item…as we can see from this ritual item here…”
Some Danes:
– Oh my… What a lovely set of cups you have Hakon!
– Thank you Valdemar… But I do wonder. How magnificent must the realm that this cups were made be.
*Meanwhile in the Roman Empire*
– So basically, our empire is now divided in 3, one part being under Rome, in the East under a foreign Queen that controls the grain supply from Egypt and in the West under a Galo-Roman general with the support of the Gallic legions. We have a massive inflation threatening our economy going belly up, and constant barbarian raids where most of the time we arrive to late bcz the empire’s border are BIG!
– Emperor Aurelian just defeated Zenobia and that traitorous general. He might also solve Rome’s other problems… No?
– That’s the neat part… He won’t! Hey! We can cross “political instability” & “political assassinations” from the list! So… That’s what? 30 Emperors in 50 years?
I honestly forgot I was reading /r/Europe, so my mind for some weird reason assumed those were some fancy cup ramen
TikTok taught me that ancient Rome didn’t exist.
Wonder when and how these arrived in Denmark.
I 300 AD we were not very advanced at all, so it seems odd that these would reach Denmark at that time honestly.
Absolutely amazing work, real credit to the masters of craft 2 millennia ago.
Bloody hell! The glass work is impressive!
Those are from the Caesar Augustus McDonald’s drive thru animal collection, aren’t they?
Very rare indeed! Directly more sought after than the Princess Leah bikini glass while Han strokes a Wookie.
Probably really embarrassing souvenir trinkets brought home from a trip.
TV & movies pretty much always have people from antiquity drinking out of metal mugs or cups. Kinda forgot they even had glassware.
Cheetah.
In Denmark.
Romans man..
*jelly jars
And those things are supposed to make you see better?
Tasteful penis

Now available at McDonald’s!
Didn’t read the title and thought they were some cheap plastic pudding cups somebody ate and left empty on the sidewalk.
I find it incredible that one glass includes a picture of a leopard.
This might not seem like much to our modern sensibilities, but I guess 1700 years ago most people living in Denmark would have had no idea what kind of creature that was.
Without photography, TV, printing, press etc a picture of a big cat may as well have been a picture of a dragon or an unicorn as far as most people were concerned. Something out of stories and tall tales of people who had traveled a lot.
Before Amazon, there were Romans. They were everywhere
Imagine drinking Pepsi Twist outta that
Those animals would have been very exotic and to many probably mythical animals in 3rd century Denmark. Excluding the bull of course. And before someone says pheasants are all over Denmark please know that they were artificially introduced to Denmark by the monarchy in the 1600th century.
It kinda looks like what you might find in your grandma’s attic, crazy
