The game in the first picture: “Neck cord pull is an old Finnish game that has already been depicted in church paintings from the 15th century. In the pull of the neck rope, the couples sit on the floor facing each other in a tumbling position threading their heads through a loop formed by string or other sturdy material. The aim is to pull the opponent with his head up and his hands from the floor over the agreed limit. The one who manages to pull his opponent across the line first has won.”
Famous picture of world record for closest two Finns had ever entered each other’s personal space.
Why do the men look so manly
The good old days
Great share, thanks. I’ve been looking for things like this for a project.
My son has the same dimple as the little girl in #10 and I would do anything to make him laugh to see it.
Which is huge archive of old finnish army photographs, made available for viewing few years ago.
Some of these are quite famous pictures, I’ve seen at least 3 of these before, possibly in history textbooks.
Number 8 I thought looked a lot like the fell Saana, but I thought there wouldn’t have been any buildings there. It’s in Enontekiö though so I guess it is.
Nice photos and my highest praise to the universe that I wasn’t born in those times
