Boy settles case for €20,000 over nervous shock from witnessing bus crash

  1. Seems like a joke – how did he end up at the crash site? Did the parents bring him? How would it not be foreseeable then?

This isn’t their first claim either for this incident or for others – the boy got 26k for being in a car that was rear ended last year.

I know insurance companies want to pit us against each other but this sounds like an awful lot of bad luck for one child with cars.

  2. I get the feeling the family may have a penchant for bringing claims, based on the evidence in the article. I thought reading it first the sister(s) had died in the incident, before realising they hadn’t.

Yes, I’m sure finding out your sisters/daughters had been in a crash and seeing the aftermath would be distressing, particularly for a young child. But €70k to the pair of them for a crash they weren’t in? Seems excessive to me.

  3. >The court heard the boy was involved in a road traffic incident in 2019 where the car in which he was a passenger was rear ended, and he had settled an action in the Circuit Court on that matter for €26,000.

This kid is under 14 and has nearly 50K in the bank from two different lawsuits & personal injury claims.

And people wonder why insurance is expensive in Ireland.

  4. People taking advantage of the system.

There are solicitors making an absolute killing off this shit. There’s an ad on tik tok at the moment for a law firm which is an Irish version of the classic UK “have you been in an accident that wasn’t your fault”.

I can understand if the girls were paralysed or killed but this is just money for nothing.

  5. I’m sure this might have caused stress for the kid. But for that reason maybe it’s best not to bring him to a crash site 🤔

  6. Sounds like some get rich quick scheme you would see on YouTube.

  7. So the parents brought their boy to the scene of the accident? Thats crazy that they could sue for that, when you could actually put the blame on the parents for exposing their kid to that. Shouldn’t the settlement not be sessions with qualified professionals to help him through it instead of a large lump sum of cash? Especially when they have a history of claiming large sums.

  8. So Mammy and Son got 70k from the crash with two daughters still to claim. And son has another 26k from a fender bender.

    Fucking joke of a country

  9. This shite is why we cant have nice things. Ffs… Our country was set up for and is run by ambulance chasers… And their friends in the judiciary all former barristers etc make sure they they all get a nice percentage… This should have been fu king struck out…

  10. Christ.

“Last year, the High Court awarded €50,000 to Ms Gavin for psychological injuries over the same incident.”

“The court heard the boy was involved in a road traffic incident in 2019 where the car in which he was a passenger was rear ended, and he had settled an action in the Circuit Court on that matter for €26,000.”

So all up, they have received €96,000 in compo so far? And no doubt the sisters will be claiming too.

Bigger fool me, working and paying my taxes.

  11. Serial claimants getting another nice sum. The more of these I read, the more I realise that I could’ve made a killing from various incidents, had I been a bigger cunt

  12. My brother was hit by a bus 5 years ago and got 8,000. What the fuck were the lawyers doing for my brother! He’s grand but was cut up and bruised

  13. I watched an ice cream van crash and roll for quite a distance when I was a kid. Where’s my €20,000. I was also on a train at 15 when a train hit someone who jumped on the tracks we litterally felt the train hit the body. Where’s my pay out?

They must be from a well off background in the first place 🙄

  14. Jesus, harden the fuck up. What moronic judge thought he deserved money for seeing a crash? *Seeing* a crash. Back in my day, seeing a crash would have been a highlight of the year. “Remember the time I saw that crash? Mental.”

  15. Nervous shock??? Fuck that.

I was in an accident where a car ploughed into a bus, bus then went into two cars and a wall (was in D15).

My neck was and still is fucked because it went like an accordion as my head bounced off the metal pole top first, one of my ribs was knackered as well as I landed somehow on the metal part of the top seat beside me (impact was all over the place tbh).

€18k is what I got. This lad sees a crash and gets €20k? Insanity.

  16. Worth noting that this was a settlement by the insurance companies, not an award from the courts.

Why is the insurance company settling? Is the law really so uncertain here that they think they’ll lose, or is it that the cost of the case makes the difference negligible to them and not worth it?

  17. This was in my school. I remember the day it happened. Another guy I was in classes with sued for about 50 grand because apparently the injuries had stopped his guitar hobby. The people on the bus claimed the driver had dropped at the wheel just before the crash.

I was the first student who found out when I overheard the teachers talking about it. We genuinely thought people had been killed. The Regional had trauma teams and a helicopter was sent. The fact that nobody was left permanently disfigured or disabled, let alone dead was a miracle.
