You don’t have to do it if you want to recycle it. Can’t recall ever trying to do it for kicks.
iirc there’s a news piece where they asked the manufacturer about this and asked them to demonstrate how to do it on camera and they couldn’t
Some of them you can, it looks like on that one there is the combination of the plastic is very thin coupled with how strong the bond to the board is.
If they made the plastic thicker then it would most probably separate easier, but that’s more plastic…..
The persons sorting at a recycling center is not going to take time to look to see if people removed the plastic, they will assume they haven’t (as most won’t) and throw it in the landfill pile.
Never managed to do it successfully. Just more greenwashing bullshit from the producers, so much of it about now…
I’m never really sure if you have to – we are allowed to put window envelopes into paper/card recycling. I assume a small amount is OK or is stripped out by the recycling process (maybe floats to the top and is skimmed off?)
I have done it but it took ages and it was really difficult. I wish they would ban these, it’s not actually recyclable if the recyclable parts aren’t separate from the non recyclable parts. You know what they should do, just make everything recyclable. Give them a year to find a way to make it recyclable or go out of business.
Just tear the whole front panel off and chuck a little cardboard? I don’t like that style of sandwich so I’ve not tried.
Yeah
So happy I’m not the only one, thought I was being stupid the other day or something…
I’ve had similar boxes from other brands where it worked fine, must be certain ones that are better than others.
Honestly I think we should be burning this stuff and using the heat.
It only gets incinerated whatever you do with it
My step-dad is the master at this. But he’s retired and has little better to do
If I were you I wouldn’t bother.
It’s not like you can recycle the plastic – which is the part that is never going to rot. The paper will rot away in landfill and cause little issue really – and I doubt it’s much use recycled if contaminated with food.
If you want to be environmentally friendly then don’t buy prepackaged sandwiches
Can’t be done.
Probably the same person that can remove the film lid from a ready made lasagne without leaving bits on the edges that convince me that my dinner is gonna give me cancer.
lmao I never do this shit, if something is mostly paper in the paper bin it goes, same for plastic – never washing it out or bothering to check the “type” of plastic
You don’t have to, just chuck it in the recycling as is
Didn’t even know you were supposed to
Once I wrapped my head around it, it’s actually simple. So if your holding it with your right hand, use your left hand to fkaj vkrndjzkv fjsiMc fnroksnsickkforbsjdicjf and then it just opens right up
Pret a pollutê
The problem is that often the plastic film has a lacquer spray on it that makes it non recyclable
Once I think. What I find odd is Tescos sandwiches say to remove the plastic, Sainsbury’s one say it’s all recyclable (or at least did).
The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural
Sounds like I’m the only one who doesn’t split them apart.
Nope
I’ve managed to do it for some of the wraps, in different shaped boxes – the Tesco wraps seem to be the ‘easiest’. But the sandwich boxes, I have never done it cleanly enough to actually salvage enough card to recycle
I wouldn’t bother trying until manufacturers make a real effort to use packaging that is actually recyclable. The whole thing is a bit of scam: [https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/news/plastic-recycling-export-incineration/](https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/news/plastic-recycling-export-incineration/)
There’s these things and they’re called scissors.
I thought they were the biodegradable cellulose film. I.e. wood
