1.3m people to receive €200 cost-of-living payment this week

  1. Giving out free money doesn’t bring the cost of living down. All these measures are counter-productive. Increased discretionary income results in higher prices.

  2. Maternity benefit recipients miss out yet again. Does the government have any idea how expensive babies are? Especially when they’re small – formula, nappies, wipes, sterilising bottles twice a day in the microwave 11 mins at a time. Washing machines going daily, sometimes dryers too.
I know women who are really struggling. Child benefit goes nowhere.

  3. I fully endorse the concept of unemployment benefit but a one week payment of 440 euros for those on it longer than 12 months is lunacy. It’s the equivalent of 30 hrs at minimum wage or whatever.

  4. This is like punching someone in the nose and saying “jaysus that must b very painful, I’ll give you a pain killer so the next punch won’t be as bad”

  5. Backwards country. Only people who don’t work and don’t contribute get any social reward. You work, pay taxes, don’t have a criminal record, don’t live on the dole, you get… nothing. Ridiculous. We are a country, not a charity. Endemic intergenerational problem.
