It was only yesterday I was reading that because no omnicron case had been hospitalised, the entire response was unnecessary. Why they needed to judge so early was not said.
But I was told by several new accounts on this sub that no one in the world was hospitalised with Omicron a few days after it was discovered, so therefore no one ever would be, and it was all a ‘nothing burger’!
Who to believe…
But I thought no one in the world was in hospital with it!
At least according to this sub a few days ago.
Haha look at the state of this sub. If the government announced anything normally it would be viewed with scepticism and contempt.
But as long as it’s COVID related, a minister can announce anything he wants, and it’s completely gobbled down without a question asked.
How many are in hospital? Where are these cases of hospitalisations? What are the demographics of those hospitalised?
A government minister has conveniently announced that the thing they need to happen to justify their restrictions…Is happening…But no further information provided.
This doesn’t tell us much, it was always going to end up in hospitals – it is so transmissible that it is going to end up everywhere. How many cases? Is it an outbreak in one hospital or many? Are they in hospital because of omicron? Are they in for something else and happened to have a mild or asymptomatic case?
This was always going to cause some severe illness and deaths, we just don’t know how much yet.
From the BBC article:
“It is not clear if those people who are in hospital with Omicron are there because of the virus or for other reasons.”
I personally don’t doubt that it will cause people to go to hospital, but why not wait until you have something worthwhile and credible to announce.
And this is on the same day they have taken a back step with isolation rules for contacts of Omicron cases. Very confusing. Their words make it sound like they are taking it seriously, but their actions don’t.
I have zero sympathy for people being hospitalised if they’ve not been vaccinated.
Would love to see the stats.
Even if people are being admitted to hospital *directly because of Omicron*, this is a potential looming problem.
Non-fatal hospitalisations are in hospital for longer and can require more complex care. This takes up beds and causes the system to back up. The callous reality is that in previous waves people simply died, so you could get their bed back and bring someone else in.
